Anthony Leal surviving another round of transfers? He's got to play at some point. HAS TO. He's not that bad. Smart kid, moves the ball quickly on offense, hustles and can shoot. He's going to play a role eventually.

....dude just wants to be a Hoosier for life! I love it. I have not problem with his role and I believe he doesn't either. Of course he would love more minutes, but he wants to do what is best for this ball team. I guarantee he's a major factor on the scout team before games.  He's coach's type of player and also the ULTIMATE team player!

Other than the bold.... and I couldn't agree more. Leal has gotten plenty of opportunity though.

Two seperate ankle injuries this season, as well, right?

He played 232 minutes in 20 games his freshman year. Played 173 minutes in 17 games his Sophomore year. He started 2 games actually. This year he played 24 minutes in 11 games.

He started against Northern Kentucky, played 2w minutes and scored 5 points, has 5 assists, 4 rebounds, a steal, a turnover and a foul. The other was the Northwestern game where he played 34 minutes and scored 5 points, had 4 assists, 3 rebounds, a turnover and 3 fouls.  I thought he's played pretty well anytime he's actually gotten to play with the main rotation. The biggest thing for me is that he hustles and the ball never sticks in his hands.

I understand how much he's played. But you said "hasn't gotten a shot", of course he has gotten a shot.... they practice against each other 4327430574 times before the season even starts.

If Leal was a knock down 3pt shooter, I believe he would be in our rotation. That's just not in his game.

I wouldn't be overly surprised for him to play meaningful mins for us the next two years, though. Very light definition of "meaningful"...example-- someone is hurt and fills in for a couple of games, someone transfers and he steps up, etc.

Sure, but at some point, someone's actual game performance has to matter more than practice. You can argue Tamar didn't belong on the floor at all towards the end of the season. Leal could have missed every shot he threw up too.

Leal can’t play at this level and he appears perfectly happy here with his family at the end of the bench. I don’t think it’s a case of he survived entering the portal.

So they already have their designated misser.

They might still go after Bates.   You could tell they were close after every IU/Michigan game.    He played with Howard’s son at IMG academy

Right on pace with who most of us thought would transfer based on the second half of the season. Neither we’re gonna be difference makers so time to up grade and let these guys try to find a spot where they can contribute.

TBD on whether we upgrade or not. Low major and mid major transfers are at least as much of a dice roll as anyone else.

That would be ABSURDLY hard to argue, imo.

My signature line, borrowed from RMK, applies to Anthony Leal and is a primary reason he will never consistently see the court at IU.

“Son, I don’t give a damn what your name is. What I want to know is, can you guard?”

I don’t know about that. I’m not sure what his shooting percentage was the last handful of games but I doubt it was above single digits.

He took a lot of bad shots that were out of the offensive rhythm but on top of that he was also just straight up missing layups. Not sure what happened to him towards the end of the season but you could tell he was trying hard to force something that just wasn’t happening.

I didn't say you couldn't argue that he shot poorly. For sure he shot poorly.

Always is TBD. We don’t even know the roster yet. Good news is it won’t take a lot to upgrade.

From the beginning if February he was 7 for 26 from 3 for about 27%

Poorly would be an understatement. For whatever reason, after the first Penn State game, Bates shot 25.6% from the field and 19% from 3 and averaged3.5 points. That even includes his Michigan State and 2nd Penn State games. In which he scored 17 and 14 in. He put 0's in 9 of those last 10 games. Take out the MSU and PSU game, he shot 16.1%(10-62) from the field and 20.7%(6-29 actually went up by a 1%). He was downright god awful shooting the ball. So yea... I think Leal could have went out and put up the same production, if not better.

A Leals ankle was REALLY bad for awhile, who knows if even he was 100% during the year. Teams very much still had to respect Tamar. Defense was very solid the 2nd half of the season. I didn't really want to see A Leal in instead of Tamar, though.

Well that's you. He was horrid to end the season. And I don't think it had anything to do with respecting his shooting, they knew he sure as hell wasn't going to drive the ball at any point. Offensively we played 4 on 5 with him on the floor. Kid has loads of potential, but he wasn't reaching anywhere near it at IU.
