I wouldn't mind race at the 3 in a big lineup as long as he can hit open shots it wouldn't be an issue

You guys are arguing against something that was said in jest during the game lol

1) nobody is “arguing” Josh
2) this was posted on 10/30, was the game played on 10/30, Josh?
3) shouldn’t you be on a golf course or driving range taking lessons preparing to lose money, Josh?

Edit: included the last Josh

Well with that attitude I'm going to shout it from the rooftops.  Race should be our 3!  I mean...he's bigger than a guard and he hits 3 pointers.  That's a 3, right?!  It's our perfect solution

I already told you, I only golf with people worse than me.  I haven't lost in years

That’s my question too. Malik looks better than JG and isn’t out of position playing at the 4. Not sure where JG’s minutes are going to come from because I doubt he was able to go 0 to 100 in wing skills.

If you watch Malik's high school games from last year, there's no doubt he's better than Jordan Geronimo. I don't mean that as a slight to Geronimo. Certain guys - Cody Zeller and Yogi Ferrell were others - you can watch in high school and there's just no doubt that they will be standout players in college. When Trace and Race say they couldn't stop Malik from scoring in practice, I don't find that surprising at all.

CJ Gunn has serious “it factor.”

Id imagine he won’t get much run this year, but his shot is pure, his first step is really quick, he’s long, and he plays like he wants to embarrass his opponent.

For me? He’s the biggest revelation from this game; more than JHS, Malik, or Logan. CJ Gunn looks like a kid that in a year or two will be a top of the rotation player.

This game made me wonder if IU's ceiling is higher at the end of this season if CJ Gunn is playing more minutes than Miller Kopp and if Schifino is playing more point guard minutes than Xavier Johnson.

I think our non-con schedule will reveal more of our capability.  It's definitely a schedule that the Freshman are going to have to "grow" quickly.

CJ will learn and grow into the defensive side of the ball / schemes, he's not going to take over any Kopp minutes, and you really can't take one game against an incredibly weak opponent at the start of the year and draw any season conclusions, let alone moving X off ball because he had one off game.

X proved himself in multiple games across a B1G season, his game improved majorly over the season and he was a primary reason we got as far as we did. I'd say the same thing about JG, the overreactions on his one game despite what he showed at the end of last season and through our 2 NCAA tourney games, not to mention his rebounding and blocking dominance and interior D) is just funny to me.

so it's a message board, we're all going to post our thoughts and make conclusions, all good, but we're going to know a heck of a lot more as we get into the real non-con schedule against real opponents. It starts with Xavier, then we get to the UNC game, then start into con play, etc. I'm interested to see where these conversations are then.

No way should Race play the 3 and is an idiotic notion.  It is more than just being able to shoot to play on the wing but need to be able to defend and handle the ball.

Malik almost got lost in the shuffle this offseason with TJD and Race back and JHS coming in too. I feel like in most years he would've been the prized recruit in the class, but the way things shook out he was like the 5th most important headline coming into the season, which is a great problem to have obviously.

Good point. PG would be a better position for him...

Of course, IU barely made the NCAA tournament last year and had a losing Big Ten record. IMHO, if we are expecting DRAMATIC team improvement this season, we should hope that the roles of some of last year's players are reduced somewhat because the freshmen, plus Bates in his second year, are ready to contribute significantly, even though they're less experienced.
