Class of '66 Old Fart

(2024) - PG Boogie Fland to Kentucky

Recommended Posts

Ofc I'm biased but...at IU he'd be guaranteed (pretty much) the starting PG spot, ball in his hands for the start. And he'd likely have a top 25 caliber team around him and the best basketball fanbase behind him on social media and at the games. At UK you'd probably be fighting for the top spot with another top 40 guard and you'd be surrounded by almost exclusively freshmen and sophomores. Plus, Rupp arena is a drafty old hollowed out shoe box and AH is, well awesome.

I'm not sure Fland would be the default starter at PG. I think a sophomore Cupps would have something to say about that.

Kentucky already, Alabama this weekend, Maryland next weekend and no other offficials scheduled yet.

All big spenders in on this one.  Curious if we can get traction.   Calipari, Oats and Woody recently at Stepianiac.

Feels like we already have traction. From stuff I have read we seem to be firmly in the mix maybe without being considered the favorite.

Maryland isn’t a real option

I agree in the case of Fland particularly.  But they did beat us for Kaiser, DHS, and the Queen recruitment isn’t over.  So Maryland is no slouch.

But I’ve heard Uk, IU, Alabama for a while for Fland, but Maryland getting the official adds another element.

Very true. The common denominator is that Kaiser, DHS and Queen are all DVM kids. It's tougher to beat Maryland for kids that are from that region.

He canceled it according to their insiders

Now officially a three team race:

”A composite five-star guard from New York, Fland is headed to Alabama this weekend. After he visits with Nate Oatsand his staff he may be done with visits. Fland has cancelled next weekend's planned visit with Maryland so his is a huge opportunity for the Tide to focus on the high-scoring guard.”

If we get McNeely, Queen, and Fland, I know big IF,  I think we are good with high school recruits. I don't think it's good to be top heavy with freshmen if we want to win at a high level.

Hoosiers have gone from “sleeper” to “serious player” in the last few weeks.

This feels pretty good. UK is UK, but the shine is definitely a little off right now. Interesting that UNC has a visit this weekend and no mention at all.
