Stuhoo Posted October 6, 2022 Author Posted October 6, 2022 Let's get extremely high-quality individuals, and let's pay them within the rules as much as possible. I'm a major fan of the attitude, personal presentation, and basketball team attitudes of Malik Reneau and Jalen Hood-Schifino, and I'm also a big fan of them getting as much NIL as possible while at IU. That's "having our cake and eating it too" roster construction at its finest. DChoosier, ALASKA HOOSIER and hoosierbgh 3 Quote

There's an incoming senior on the All B1G team that has not notably produced in three years, Malik Hall: GP MIN FG% 3P% FT% REB AST BLK STL PF TO PTS 2021-22 36 21.7 51.5 42.6 69.0 4.6 1.1 0.2 0.6 2.0 1.4 8.9 2020-21 28 17.5 48.9 36.4 69.5 4.2 1.3 0.2 0.4 1.2 0.9 5.0 2019-20 31 15.9 53.6 33.3 72.7 3.7 1.2 0.3 0.3 2.4 0.7 4.6 Quote

Hovadipo Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 Tyler Wahl is the far bigger surprise to me here. What does he even do? Hepburn is about all they have this year, so I see him going off. He was pretty dang good down the stretch last year when Davis came back to Earth. The main issue is that there isn’t very much talent in the B1G if Tyler Wahl and Malik Hall are preseason all-conference selections. Quote
Stuhoo Posted October 7, 2022 Author Posted October 7, 2022 Well ****; sometimes we need to read the tea leaves and sometimes the tea leaves are spelled out into the clearest of clear conclusions. In a full-on Bobby Knight repeat, IUBB released a practice video today in which there were exactly five players wearing red jerseys. And in a full-on Bobby Knight repeat, those five are your current IUBB starting lineup. They are: Trayce Jackson Davis Race Thompson Miller Kopp Jalen Hood Schifino, and Xavier Johnson Other things to note; Nice right hand finish + flex by TJD over Logan A little glimpse of a much better form jumper by Gallo. Kopp. I was hoping for a different starter at the wing but I can't say I'm surprised. /sigh Quote

If he is guarded to the point you don’t sag off of him, and he hits open shots it will allow others to flourish. Now, if he tries making the athletic plays or forces he wasn’t at his best last year doing any of that. Maybe he can do it. But last year it almost always went bad when he tried. assuming JHS starts we need him and X to be a serious threat to make the open 3. If neither of them are, we will need to get Bates extra minutes, which we will no matter what. The dream scenario for me is throughout the season Geronimo develops the wings skills we need and he can play the 3 at times and also spell Race at the 4 at times to get him a lot of minutes. Even when he couldn't hit the broadside of a barn toward the end of last year Parker Stewart remained in the starting lineup. I'm just as interested, or more interested in who finishes games as who starts them. I like Kopp a lot better with JHS in the starting lineup. With two guards on the floor that can break down the defense and draw a defensive rotation, Kopp, who is arguably our best open shooter, should get more and better looks. Last year with Parker and Kopp in the lineup together, we were stagnant and only had X to initiate. If Bates was in with the starters instead of Kopp our second unit would be really light on a guy who can initiate offense. If all goes well, I would expect Bates or Geronimo to finish games and get as many minutes as Kopp, or maybe more minutes. And, as Wayne said so kindly, if last year's version of Miller freakn' Kopp re-appears, and ever tries to makes plays off of the bounce I will continue to scream "NOOOOOOOOO" at my tv. :) thebigweave and WayneFleekHoosier 2 Quote

I guess we didn’t. But Kopp and Parker together was rough on offense. That’s why we played better with Galloway even though he can’t shoot. At least he provided movement on and off the ball. Parker’s inability to drive the ball or even move anywhere on offense was a killer. But Woody didn’t do much about that. Frustrating. Now, the 1st unit, 2nd unit thing bothered me equally. You have to mix and match based on EVERYTHING. Matchups, who is hot/cold, fouls, etc. sometimes certain players might excel with starters or unlock a chemistry we never got a chance to really search for. I pray he changes his subbing tactics. vemmeistars Posted October 7, 2022 Posted October 7, 2022 If you listened to Kopp's zoom with the media yesterday, I think you would be optimistic about his usage/role. He stated that his job is to defend, rebound, and knock down open shots. I'm hoping he shoots closer to 40% than 35% from 3 this year, but doesn't average more than 20 minutes a game. go iu bb, thebigweave and Stuhoo 3 Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted October 7, 2022 Posted October 7, 2022 (edited) Thought experiment? I don’t think Woody gets the credit he might deserve from college heads. Maybe he gets what he deserves. But anyhow. imagine our roster with Izzo or Painter, do you think the preseason pub would be even greater? I ask because I hear a lot of top 15 ceiling talk which is great and probably appropriate against a lot of stacked teams, but I also think this roster with a revered college coach would be top rung in the preseason discussion.
