Wow, he is on the 76ers with LaBron and company for his 18th season.  He has a good chance to get that ring.

I think he has retired.  Wiki says he’s with Philly…but he’s not on the roster.  When I asked the internet if he was still playing…the answer was no.

Ok, makes sense why he was at the game.  He deserves some time off.

They didn't get everyone, Conner Enright was sitting in front of me and was not acknowledged at the game or in the video

Saw him on X.  Once a Hoosier Always a Hoosier.  Kid worked his tail off.  Not a season anyone will look fondly back upon but HOPEFULLY it’ll be the stepping stone of a successful DeVries Tenure.

Conner, Sam, and Lamar were the three best things about last season.

I think it was said before the season started last year that Conner is the type of player you want to have on your team, and you would hate him if he was on the other team.  I love having that type of guy on our team any year.

Talks about how Sam Alexis can be more impactful this year playing with another big guy.

Happy with rebounding rate. Would've been 3rd in the country in offensive rebound rate last year and 1st in the country in defensive rebound rate. Small sample size obviously but pretty good competition. Need to get better about turnovers.

RE: WKU scrimmage, thought there were a lot of positives. First team we played that trapped us, took us a while to decide how to attack it while being as vanilla as you could be. Got better about throwing it inside and making them pay for double teams. Didn't shoot FTs well. Rebounding kept us in the game. Freshmen gave us great production. Wanted to give them meaningful minutes and they took advantage of it, says a lot about their readiness to perform in a tight game situation. Exactly what you want in an exhibition game.

Follow up Q about if the things WKU did would give them trouble during the regular season and what you'd like to see against the pressure they saw in the first half. DDV: "When they're aggressive in the ball screens, playing out of the short roll a little more, spraying there, some of the double team beaters, sets you're going to run. Even when they're pulled in, being able to run some of your quick hitters to take advantage of those things. Those are the actions maybe we would've run a lot more of to take advantage of that but as the game went on we got some good opportunities and good looks we just didn't convert. We got to the FT line, over the 3 games, I thought our ability to draw fouls was a positive. We've got to connect on the FTs to get rewarded for it but getting there is the first job. ..."

Q about turning offensive rebounds into quality extra possessions

Didn't convert as well as we need to on 2nd and 3rd chance opportunities but we're getting them and that's good. Our shooting has been solid in the games but from what we've seen in practice and knowing the type of shooting we have and the inside presence we have, I think that's going to be a real strength of ours as we move forward. The ability to collapse defenses, force them to play our interior and now all of a sudden we're standing out there shooting. ... Says he likes our shooting and depth at shooting + the interior play and ability to play off each other.

Q: Defensively, where has the team made the biggest strides since the summer?

Like our connectivity, that's really improved. Communication, guys learning when to switch, when not to. Keeping the ball in front of us a lot better, but WKU game was disappointing in that sense at times. Overall guys have done a good job of forcing the ball into our bigs and making them have to finish over the top of size. On the interior we have so much more of a presence there as guys get in the paint. You have to finish over us and we've got another big on the back side able to clean up misses. Overall we've grown at keeping the ball in front of us and making them finish over the top.

Q: Samet establishing himself on the block, how key?

I feel like we're missing him still. We put a ton of time in, we've just gotta throw him the ball more. He has to demand it more but we've got to throw it to him when he's open and gets a guy on his back. Then you force those double teams and can get something on the backside or kickout 3s. We've got to make that a priority. Same with Sam. Playing more inside out for easy catch and shoot opportunities to help shooters get hot.

Q: Have you ever felt more prepared as a coach going into a season?

Yeah it's been a great advantage for us to play 8 total games already, 5 in the summer, 3 exhibitions. We're ready for the opener. Have to continue growing and getting better like every team in the country, that never stops. But the guys are in a good space especially for being all new guys and learning how to play with one another. That's where some of the TOs come from, they're still learning the offense and where guys are going to be, when to cut, when to hold, those kinds of things but pleased with the progress we've made, the growth has been noticeable
