On the broadcast last night they talked about their conversation with Woody about convincing TJD to come back this year. It ended with them asking Woody if he thought TJD was ready for the pros now and his answer was something like "Yes, I do think he's ready." If that's true, Woody won't be trying to convince him to come back again.

In terms of him being ready or not....it sure as heck isn't like guys can't go the G league route or overseas and make it to the NBA.....or earn decent money elsewhere.  The routes to the NBA don't always run through the draft any more.  And there is something to said to getting better by focusing 100% on basketball and 0% on college.

I saw more NBA guys chattering about him in the last ten days (Hollinger and Schmitz specifically noted impressions) than in probably three years combined. Good for him. They seem to think he’s a second round/two-way contract guy right now.

I also think he’s really changed his IU legacy in the same time frame. Good for him.

I think IU could make a compelling case for him to stay if we could show him NIL love.  What are the rules on that?  Can the fans create a gofundme?

I’m pretty sure that would not be allowed. If, however, a ton of fans bought $29.99 TJD t-shirts that would be ok.

My not-at-all joking question is…say Homefield makes a TJD shirt at $29.99 apiece and TJD gets his chunk of that. Can Joe Rich Guy from Carmel buy 10,000 $29.99 TJD shirts from Homefield and have them passed out to the student section before a game?

That seems different to me since he’s providing a service. A single person/entity buying $300,000 worth of shirts is directly skirting the rule which makes me wonder if the NCAA would (wrongly) shut it down.

Sure, but the point is, if the money is there, there is no job too small to justify a lot of it.

Why go to the trouble of buying and distributing tons of tshirts when you can give him a million for signing a few autographs

It would actually be really good for Woody and the program for him to get drafted.  Woody can tell every recruit how helped TJD.

Just my opinion.....if a guy is truly worth someone throwing $300,000 away on bogus t-shirts, he's probably worth more as a pro.

FWIW, the Ohio State player in question (actually former OSU player as he transferred to Texas in December) that signed the mega NIL deal is most certainly worth more than that at the pro-level...but by NFL rules, he can't turn pro yet.  It will be interesting in the future to see how much freshman basketball players will get from NIL deals considering they can't turn pro yet.  IMO, there is a possibility it will lead to the removal of the one-and-done rule.

Appearances during Little 5 week, commercials, 1v1 with donors, etc. You’d think we’d have this figured out after being the first to have a NIL program in the country.

Worth is based upon value to a person/team.  He may be worth $1M to IU, but does an NBA team think he is?  I'm not sure what you're saying here
