So, many on here want another ...

Mike Davis

Kelvin Sampson

Tom Crean

Archie Miller

Instead of an Indiana guy.
How’d that workout.

Btw- have you seen Justin Smith at Arkansas?
Court is the same size.
Rim is the same height.
What changed?

And Steve Alford isn’t a Tom Crean or Archie Miller? There’s a reason he’s not coaching at UCLA or Iowa any longer. It’s been pretty clear that’s who you think the hire should be. And take away the phone call thing Kelvin Sampson would be a fantastic hire, that dude can coach ball

I’d take Woodson over Fife any day of the week. Fife is terrible.

How do we know Fife is terrible?

I think we could do a lot worse.

He is not my first choice but if Dolson decides he is the guy that is fine by me.

Bc he wasn’t able to win at a much smaller program with absolutely zero pressure. Archie had an exponentially better resume than fife. You think he can out recruit and out coach the guys in this league? I don’t.

Terrible?!?  Energy and charisma and took on an impossible job with IPFW and has now studied under a master for years.  He may not be the right guy but he’s far from terrible.

Terrible hire. That’s what I meant. And I stand by that take. Fife would be an epic disaster at Indiana. Worse than Archie Miller.

1. Indiana guy.

2. Indiana guy.

3. Indiana guy.

4. Indiana guy.

5. Indiana guy.

That’s my top 5.
In that order.
Nothing else to consider.

“Indiana guy” is a sure fire way fo end up with another bad coach. I couldn’t care less what state someone is from or where they went to college. I care if they know how to coach. There aren’t any successful “Indiana guy” coaches out there.

Actually I think he would do just fine.  I would be more worried about his coaching experience if it were not for his time next to Izzo. There is a reason some think he will take over Sparty when it’s time. That don’t sound terrible to me.

Your entitled to your opinion. But the fact is that there is nothing in his resume to suggest that he would succeed at Indiana, which is a much more difficult place to win than anywhere he’s been. Half the fan base would clock out for good if he was named.

Exactly. And Mike Woodson is plenty smart enough to realize he’ll need some young recruiting energy.

And that's the biggest issue for me should we go with Woodson --  who will be on his staff.   IMO Juwan Howard nailed it by adding Phil Martelli with his connections to the college world of rules/recruiting/kissing AAU butts, etc.  Again, IMO Woodson would need the same quality of hire on his staff and we can't just assume Roberts and Hunter stick around or that Woody would even want them to stick around.

Yeah, at this point in his career Woodson is much closer to the Martelli role as a mentor  than he is to the Howard role.

The half the fan base stuff is way over blown. Aside from Stevens no matter who they hire some are going to be mad and threaten to abandon ship.  But we all know that isn’t happening and for the few who maybe do a few wins and they will be right back.

Some keep repeating this but his stats barely changed.  He is finishing the season strong as a senior that has started almost every game in his career should.

I think you have grossly underestimated the level of apathy this fanbase has reached. It’s at an unprecedented level.

No one would abandon ship if IU hired Chris Beard, Nate Oats, Scott Drew, etc. Hire an elite college coach and the fans will be happy. But buying out Archie to hire a soon to be 63 year old former mediocre NBA head coach? That is how you get fans to abandon ship. Our fans would groan, and opposing fans would laugh at us. Doing that doesn’t even begin to make sense, so I refuse to believe that it’s a possibility.
