I get what you're saying.  One thing to note is UK hired a guy with zero tourney wins.

I kinda doubt it's Devries, I think his agent is using the IU job to get more from WVU.  If it's him, that's fine, we'll see how he does!

Fair point.

I’ll trust those that say he’s awesome!

Eric from the Hysterics said it’s Devries but nobody at IU has told him that on the Peegs board

What does this mean?

This has been the wildest coaching search i've seen. a lot of misinformation all around and too many twists to keep up with. If it ends up being DeVries, we are getting ourself a hell of a coach. WVU this year was 20th in overall defense, and 9th in the country in defending the 3P, he also really emphasizes 3s over 2s (WVU attempted 849 3s compared to IU's 632). His brand of basketball is modern, and very different than Archie/Woody ball we are accustomed to.

He'd also bring his son, and most likely Stone, Amani, and Powell with him. He knows how to work the portal. Not sure why people are questioning whether or not he'd be a good hire - i'm guessing because everyone wanted the grand slam hire, myself included. But he'd be the best hire since Sampson

It is true; if the floor is Darian Devries, IU is in good shape. Looking forward to see this play out over the next 48 hours or so, hopefully.

I remember the Sampson search like it was yesterday. Lots of rumors about Pitino being getable for money. Then some strange rumors that Izzo wasn't happy at MSU and that IU was his "dream job." But then someone tracked a plane to Norman. It was completely out of left field. Not a single rumor. The Crean search was more standard. We had hit rock bottom and were talking about mid-major guys like Brad Brownell at Wright State. Crean was a huge get at that time and I don't remember a single rumor until someone tracked a plane to Milwaukee.  Archie was a regular CBB search where the P5 school hired the hot mid-major guy. And Archie was on everyone list of candidates. Hope that sums it all up.

There was also a new account that posted the Sampson news.  Might have been from OK but they got pushback right away then moments later they were right

Off topic: If IU wanted to fly to given locations, and not risk being tracked by coaching search obsessives, what would be some good airports to evade suspicion?

ah you don't like he has political opinions different from yours. I guess that would leave Pearl out for the other half of the fanbase.

I don’t care if he has different political views. I do care that he’s a virtue signaling, insufferable @$$. I don’t think he even believes half of what he says. He’s intimidated by his own players, such as Draymond Green and Steph Curry.

Understood. I just thought IU would’ve hired someone else.

I’ll trust you guys that say he’s a stud.

I have no idea if ultimately he would be a success, because all we can do is project.  From what others have said, he recruits well, team plays good defense (15th this year), and he can adjust when his best player goes down.  When could we say that with an IU coach the last 10 years?
