General Coach Candidate News

Remember at the end of The Wizard of Oz when Dorothy and her friends finally meet the great and powerful Wizard in the Emerald City, expecting him to grant their wishes? Then Toto pulls back the curtain, revealing an ordinary man operating machinery and speaking into a microphone. He’s just a regular guy, with no magic, no real power.

Now, imagine watching that scene and still believing the ordinary man is actually a wizard. That pretty much sums up this thread.

That said, there's no harm in letting people believe what they want. If they still think Brad Stevens is going to be the next coach at IU, so be it. Sure, most logical people see it as pure fantasy, but hey, people enjoy fantasies; they give them hope and joy. So why bother trying to convince them otherwise?

As much as you think they should let go of their false hope and fantasy, you also need to let go of your desire to make them accept reality.

Well said.

What other job could Indiana be "competing with?"

Indiana will be open.

Florida State will be open.

Miami will be open.

Virginia will be open.

I don't see any other Big Ten jobs opening unless someone like Hoiberg or Collins were poached.

Villanova? Syracuse?

Oklahoma

minnesota

villanova

texas

If UNC pulls the trigger, damn near half the ACC is going to be open.

Would love pitino. He wins.

I'll share a spot of common ground with you here. And I don't think you worry as much about age with him because I think he coaches until he can't. Theoretically he's a guy that you can hire with an estimated expiration date but is guaranteed to leave the program top tier and attractive to the next crop of premier Coaches for hire.

Additional thought: I'm not worried about his indiscretions at U6. Now that he can just throw cash at players he can leave the hookers out of it.

I don't see Oklahoma or Minnesota moving on. Oklahoma is still a tourney team and their coach is in year 2. Minnesota is pretty welhere they'll always be in basketball. And right now Minnesota is actually 13th, a spot behind Indiana.

Oddly written story. "Indiana Hoosiers linked to Rick Pitino as head coaching candidate ...Trevor Andershock of 247 Sports has suggested that the Hoosiers could take a look at Rick Pitino....While he does make it clear that he doesn't see a likely fit between the two sides, Pitino would be a very interesting option....Andershock shared some of the reasoning why the two sides won't come together...Pitino is looking at other options, and Indiana has many concerns about his past," he wrote....All of that being said, the idea that Pitino would be a great fit with Indiana is likely never going to turn into a reality. But, it's a fun idea to think about."

So they are linked, but not really and actually they don't want him at all and he's looking at other options? Great insight.

Porter was hired same year as Woody.
