Please don't tell me IU is willing to pay $9M+ for Stevens but since he won't be the coach they're going to go cheap on salary for everyone else. Otzelberger is making $4M now. If they really want him, something like $5M might not be enough to pull him away. It would be a lot harder to say no to $6-7M.

If IU wants a quality coach, make it very hard for them to say no. I doubt they'll do that.

9?? I thought Isaac said it was 11.

We could debate about what is "worse," but Turgeon's 17-14 season with 9-11 in conference, and the 19-13 season with 8-10 in conference aren't great, and right in line with Woody's worst year at IU, last year.

But others are correct; this thread is to debate IU coaching candidates, and Mark Turgeon is not an IU coaching candidate.

Wait a second, you trying to pull a Goodman on us here and say he is already hired?

Trilly posted his hot board...I did not see it so I am relying on the information provided to be accurate. Likely all agents and other coaches speculating but for whatever it is worth, his list was as follows:

Tier One - Otzelberger/Drew

Tier Two - McCollum/Brownell/McDermott

1. Otzelberger

2.  Drew

3.  McDermott

4.  Williams

5.  DeVries

6.   Collins

7.  Byington

8.  McCollum

looks kind of like mine that I posted on a free message board

I am assuming it won’t be Stevens, May, Beard, Drew, Otz, McDermott, McCasland, Cronin, Buzz, Collins, Schertz, Byington or Pitino Jr.

Probably not McCollum or Calhoun.

DeVries, I’d like the hire a lot, but can’t really see it happening. If Brownell makes a deep March run, he’d be far and away the betting favorite IMO. If they do make the second weekend or further and we haven’t announced someone else yet, I think the speculation will be super high about him taking this job. Can’t wait for the first weekend of the tournament.

That is a lot of negativity to say we won't get any of those guys lol

If it isn't Stevens, Drew or McCollum I think Dolson takes down his morals some and throws Beard a bone. No way we hire Brownell....the dude was on the hot seat at Clemson like two years ago!

I kind of doubt random “insiders” have much info at this point. Any reasonable person could’ve made that list from reading this board. In fact, the inclusion of McCollum makes me think that’s likely where it came from.

Interesting counterfactual. He also wouldn’t have had the timing of his son, who I thought dragged those UCLA teams down a little. Kid could shoot (duh) but couldn’t guard a lamppost. Lots of talent on those teams too, but it seems everyone can recruit to UCLA.

Same mistake as Hoiberg. His son definitely isn’t a P5 player. Gets 30 mpg. Averages 3/2/2

Does he really average 30 minutes per game?  The stats seem right but I can't imagine him playing that much.  Would think its closer to 20 mpg.

I think it’s generally assumed within the coaching fraternity that Otz (among other coaches) would drop whatever he’s doing and run to Lawrence if Self retired. I suspect that is why his buyout was substantially reduced in his most recent extension-Kansas job, and maybe Texas job, more than the IU job.

This could very well be true, but is Kansas really that preferable a job to IU? I get they've been much better under Self than we've been, but in terms of facilities, support, etc., are they really that far ahead?

At a minimum, IU has a more fertile recruiting territory in its home state/region.

What if IU wins big ten tournament and goes to final 4?

Here's a question...would you rather have Woodson win the natty this year, but then come back for 3 more years, or go out in the first weekend, but get a new coach?

Would the answer change if you knew the new coach wasn't Brad/Drew/Otz/Pearl/Few?
