Glad to see the McCollum crowd die off a bit particularly with the Otz smoke . Posting this Incase Drake makes a run in March (however they might not even get there if they don’t win the Arch Madness a lot of pressure think Ind State last year ) .

This is why Dolson is doing what he’s doing in hiring his sitting P4 coach (or our unicorn) . Might end of being a solid hire . Might get his shot at Iowa or ISU in the near future but just can’t take the risk.

I definitely don't think we'd be setting up games with St. John's and Marquette, on top of UK, if Ben McCollum was the guy. He'd need to ease into the job year one.

I know others have said it, but it seems highly unusual that we'd be scheduling this many non-conference games at this level, without input from the new coach.

You'd want to do everything you could to set the new guy up for success, and part of that would be letting him have a big say in the schedule.

on the flip side, a team needs other teams to play... gotta get something on the schedule... and maybe there is input from the new coach... after all, we've been told that Scott has his guy...

I have never heard of a specific date. I have not personally heard of a signing yet. I have heard many different people say Scott has his man. I have also heard that if so many people know it's done it's going to leak sooner rather later. I have spoken with @BehindTheBench and believe he has good info. I think that date he is saying is because it will be at the end of the regular season and people will speak more freely.

I think the reasonable take here is you and others have not heard that he has told Dolson 'no' so there has not been any smoke that way other than Goodman. And the quote being so meh. The guy literally went on camera and called himself a Masshole last time ffs. He knew "not a candidate" would not be good enough for the IU fanbase to move on. So that's where I keep a sliver of hope. Just my worthless two cents.

I haven’t got much solid info—just some reasonable hunches.  A friend who is very connected with Varsity Club told me on 2/14 they were taking a “big run” at Brad.  Not clear if it had happened by that date or not.  I do know two people who would absolutely have been contacted to ante up—but haven’t asked what they know.

Again—I just can’t get past what has substantially changed since the last run at Brad.  He had his eye on the NBA going back to his Butler days.  The Celtics is the one job that pulled him away from college.  He seems happy and content, as does his family.

I asked the mods and they agreed we can drop that Purdue Jockstrap label by your name if you call your donor friends and get us good info.  If not, we may need to keep that label longer than normal

I don’t think IU will hire McCollum but comparing him to Porter Moser is nuts

Thanks for the welcomes. The most curious part of this process for me has been the absolute silence from the administration. I respect that they don’t want to dance on Woody’s grave, and I certainly understand the complexities of candidates currently coaching and under contract, but you’d think there would be some mainstream reports digging in and we’ve seen next to nothing. Kudos to the administration, but it doesn’t help my impatience which obviously should be their number 1 concern.

Yeah pretty sure KathywithaC is on vacation.  She usually is our process explainer.

Gonna predict right now Oats name will be all over the UT job until Bama announces that 7/84 extension.

I know my UNC folks had their eyes on the buyout going down next year for Oats until the extension came out yesterday. They expected him to get an extra year a la Woody then the buyout goes to 10million on 1 April I believe.

One big difference, which has been mentioned before, is that BS has no media obligations that I'm aware of. So he doesn't have to sit in front of a camera and answer the question multiple times.

Pretty good food for thought from Mike Wiemuth (X’s & Joes Pod) @M_Wiemuth_

Be wary of chatter. Coaches who know they’re at the top of an AD’s target list don’t require their media pals to start whisper campaigns for their candidacy. Often times the more you hear a coach’s name, the further towards the bottom they reside on the program’s candidate list.

Well, that info would close the door on facial hair... thank goodness for that.

I agree with this.

I don't know the process, so I am assuming here, but doesn't the athletic department handle most of the scheduling? No doubt they get input from the coach but I would assume the lions share is happening outside of the HC. I also assume that they have strict deadlines to keep in order to make these matchups happen so they can't really wait on a new coach.

Entirely valid, but it was so forceful last time it seems odd to me that it essentially was hand waving the job. And I am pretty confident Chris and others will hear if Brad is a no to Dolson, there is no logical reason that info doesn't leak out imo.
