Moral of the story... Not a serious program at all. They just want the money. They don't care about the fans or the product, just your money.

In the 80’s Harry Gonso led a blue ribbon committee that hired Tom Ehrlich as IU president, the relationship with the university and basketball program soured to the point of Bob knight threatening to leave…. The administration was humiliated and held meetings on how they could actively de emphasize the basketball program in favor of academics. It’s the revenge of the nerds Plotline for 15 years. And they’ve never changed in the other direction. As far as the Mike Davis years, I analyzed every coach that made it to a national title from “afterglow” Davis, Kevin Ollie, Tubbie Smith, Bruce Weber. On average those coaches stayed 6 years. So we aren’t out of the norm. The issue is the firing of Sampson, and thus power vacuum That was filled by another blue ribbon committee by Harry Gonso which hired the likes of Fred Glass and Tom Crean. McRobbie could have held things accountable but he was so bad that the people who solicit donations at IU actively had to hide big donations from McRobie out of fear he’d interject and lose them the donation. So the dysfunction goes back to the 80’s and infected all the way up to the BoTs

Also, I said on this board that we should have hired beard if Stevens said no. But was told the admin wouldn’t touch him with a 10ft pole.  That’s why I changed my avatar 3 years ago to Beard. Instead we hired woody. Reggie miller said he ran the best practice he’s ever seen. Remove his domestic dispute and he’s the one of if not the best coach in the NCAA, and he could be hired. If anyone can argue he’s not a top 5 coach in the ncaa, WITHOUT bringing up the domestic dispute I’m all ears. Please, I’d love to hear your reasoning.

 

also side note. Do other schools have to have boosters pay half the coaches salary?

I know what you’re saying, but what does his domestic dispute have to do with his ability to coach? It’s a case closed, book shut type deal where all charges were dropped with no further legal proceedings that could jeopardize his availability on the sideline. 
 

And to your second point, coaching salaries and buyouts are donor funded at almost every school and in a lot of cases up to 100%.

NIL means nothing if you don’t have a coach. Chris Beard and his Ole Miss squad would kick the living crap out of our pampered NIL mercenaries. And he’d take Woody’s players and beat him with them in round 2.
 

95% of this fan base wants a winner and wouldn’t blink an eye if Chris Beard was hired. Unfortunately, the other 5% primarily lives on boards like these. 

100% agree with you that Beard is one of, if not the best, coach in the country.  I believed that when he was at Little Rock and he proved it beyond a doubt at Texas Tech and everywhere else he’s been since then.

Several years ago, there was someone else who fit that profile, named Billy Gillispie.  Sadly, he flamed out at Kentucky.  Now, I’m not saying everyone is the same.  What I’m saying is alcoholics and high-pressure situations don’t generally mix well.  When you’re talking about hiring someone to coach 18-22 years olds at this school, that has to factor into the equation.

You legitimately don't need ANY other reason than his history of domestic violence coupled with alcoholism. It's not about "legal proceedings jeopardizing his availability on the sideline" It's about the fact he could literally kill her next time. Not here. As our coach. Not everyone is as happy to quickly cast aside any concern about the abuse of women if it means winning basketball games. 

I'm done talking about Chris Beard because he's never gonna be the head coach here. Cry about it.

According to the police affidavit in support of Beard's arrest, Trew initially told officers he strangled her from behind to the point where she couldn't breathe for several seconds. The affidavit listed several visible signs of an altercation, including bite marks on her arm and abrasions on her face and leg.

According to the affidavit, Trew initally told police "he choked me, bit me, bruises all over my leg, throwing me around and going nuts.'' Her later statement did not address why she called 911 or several of the physical injuries described in the police report.

Texas suspended Beard without pay the day he was arrested. He was fired on Jan. 5 when Texas officials told Beard's attorney he was "unfit'' to lead the program.

Thank you for this important context. Yet the same people who want XJ gone for getting chippy on the court and speeding want to hire a guy who chokes, bites, and badly beats his wife. Outrageous, truly.

Rug sweeping? Please list all the alcohol-induced incidents that have been road blocks en route to Chris Beard becoming the best college basketball coach in America? And before you spout off about the domestic incident in Austin, read the toxicology report. 

I want actual documented incidents, not what you've read on Twitter, Message Boards, etc.

I'm fully aware of what the police report states. Remember when 95% of this board dismissed the police report pertaining to Mgbako's arrest late last year? You know because its the police?

After some discussion, we’ve decided to leave the thread open and ask a couple favors:

-Please keep things from getting personal. Believe me, no one is interested in your thang-measuring contest. Do it in the DMs.

-We can probably let the Beard conversation rest. The thread was interesting and cordial until it became 5 straight pages of both sides repeating themselves ad nauseum. Not cool and, frankly, annoying. 

Hopefully we can get back on track and keep the discussion productive. Don’t make Old Fart put on his s**t kickers.
