General Coach Candidate News

Recommended Posts

This is crazy.  Maybe Dolson has had his guy the whole time and this external view is hilarious.  But if you follow the media train, they act like we've missed on 8 guys already.  Its kinda funny.  Whole really knows who the target is besides Stevens.
I do know it wasn't Brownell so if it ends up being him, **** hit the fan.
To make matters worse this isn't a rushed search dolson has had 4 weeks already to " get his guy".

I doubt Schertz would have been able to keep the band together at ISU.  Lots of teams were already in on the better players.

To me, there's a chicken-egg thing. It's hard to believe that a university in southern Indiana - even if it's Indiana State - couldn't have come up with the money to take one more crack at a once-in-a-lifetime season.

Hard to tell for me the relationship between Schertz leaving and players exploring other options.

At the conclusion of the season, the Hoosiers will move on from Mike Woodson.
The first name to replace him that came to the mind of many was former student manager and current Michigan head coach Dusty May. The Indiana native has now signed an extension with UM, keeping him in Ann Arbor.
Iowa State’s TJ Otzelberger and Baylor’s Scott Drew were two more names to watch but it sounds like both coaches are happy with their current gigs.
Two other potential candidates that have came across my desk recently are Drake’s Ben McCollum and Clemson’s Brad Brownell.
McCollum won four Division 2 national championships during his time at Northwest Missouri State before accepting the Drake job last offseason. In his first year, the Bulldogs won the Missouri Valley regular season and conference tournament, punching their ticket to the NCAA tournament. On top of that, McCollum was awarded MVC Coach of the Year. It goes without being said, Ben McCollum is a proven winner and one of the elite coaches in college basketball.
Brownell has been at Clemson since 2010 but he’s an Indiana native. He led the Tigers to an Elite Eight last season and they’re currently ranked 10th in the AP Poll.
Texas A&M’s Buzz Williams has been another named thrown out, but his involvement seems limited.
I could see Creighton head coach Greg McDermott having interest in the job, but it sounds like Indiana hasn’t made a move on him yet.
Ole Miss head coach Chris Beard is a former assistant of the late Bob Knight at Texas Tech but I’m told its unlikely that athletic director Scott Dolson goes this route with his checkered past.

Shoulda added Shertz to my list - I could get behind any of these 4 -  Huss, McCollum, Devries, Shertz.

I'm honestly excited about this generation of up and comers - much more then the Mack, Cronin, Miller trio we had 2 searches ago - it very well could be my crimson colored glasses or recency bias but they just seem more prepared for the big stage.

This guy gets it. Those 4 are primo candidates

Guys why did RTZ bail?

All our sources got fed the same information this morning. Evidently a Bloomington real-estate agent has been working with Billy D on a farm outside of the city limits near Nashville.

I likely won’t get the whole story until some time afterwards but yes, it does appear that he did not get his man unless his man was always a lesser tier/lesser accomplished coach all along but I don’t think that is the case at all.
My fear is he misjudged things and despite thinking he was starting the search on 3rd base was actually still standing in the on deck circle.
Dolson has his guy was clearly never true. That was just something a so called insider posted and many fell for it.

No we wouldn't be but happier than if he hired brad b. Brad b is about the worst hire he could make to make fans excited.

I can't believe I'm going to say something even remotely defensive of a hire as bad as Brownell, but the worst hire for that would be one of Thomas/Buckner/Wittman.

Let’s keep talking about Brownell…maybe talk ourselves right out of him being the coach! Lol

I wish I could, after the last 25 years I could absolutely see it happening. I think there's no way IU is that stupid, then I remember they were the only place dumb enough to make Woodson a HC.
