I’d agree w/ @Uspshoosier that Pack is more of a small 2 than a true point. He played next to a 5’7” PG at KSU, but has pretty good assist numbers anyway.

We can only assume why he’s transferring but there are some obvious reasons. The less obvious reasons may determine where he lands, though. If he wants the ball in his hands a ton, yes, Purdue makes sense; if he wants to play for a guy who coached NBA-caliber guards in the NBA, though…

So why couldn't he okay at the 3 like Oladipo, Robert Johnson and Romeo did?

I think you can play him wherever as long as you put the ball in his hands. He makes really good decisions. I think we will play 2 point guards with him and X.

That would make sense. And if by some chance in the world we could get Pack here, I don't see why anyone would complain about starting X, Pack and JHS.

Watching JHS now, Lander never played with or against this kind of talent. In this game alone I have seen guys going to IU, Purdue, Duke, Texas, Arizona, Vanderbilt. Lander might have played against one division player on his schedule, not many every night out.

Watching Montverde……I have to say if Lander had been to n that team in high school he would have been getting mop up minutes.  They are that talented AND physically gifted.  JHS is the top rated incoming recruit in the Big Ten….but only the third highest rated senior at Montverde.  Milk Reneau is the fifth rated senior at Montverde….five guys ranked in the top 28.  Landed was rated high — but overranked — and he left high school s year early,

I think if the staff recruited him as their pg and they turned around and played him at the 3 that would be a bad look and not a great move on the staffs part if they are wanting to have good relations with Monteverde.  Definitely agree they will play X and JHS together.   If Pack comes also I’m pumping up a 3 guard everyone’s happy lineup.

I would love Pack, and I can absolutely imagine a three guard lineup working. But I will say: missing out on an impact transfer because:

-you’ve got the best returning PG in the conference,
-you’ve got a five star PG committed, and
-you’ve got an interesting stable of other 2/3s, including one who’s likely on a lot of “breakout sophomores” lists next fall

…is a good reason to miss. If that’s what happens, of course.

I agree with all of this, yet some teams are able to successfully stack talent consistently. It would be a nice problem to have for once. Not having to depend on 1-2 guys carrying the load along with half a dozen role players. Everyone can't be a star, but I'd like to give it a try anyway. :)

I think so but I don’t see JHS coming off the bench.  Not sure how that would play out because I don’t see X coming off the bench either

Honestly, that’s fine. You don’t pass up getting someone that would be your best player from day 1 because of other players you have.

we will never be good if that is the plan

Nigel Pack is not coming to IU.  I'm not sure why we are talking about it.   He's going to have everybody and his brother going after him and there are certainly better fits.

He will have 100+ options but not sure how he will have better fits. He would be our best and most important player from day 1 and solve our biggest problem we have had over the 6 seasons

if TJD returns we finally have that duo that complements each other’s skill sets

See Remy Martin and final 4, #1 seed Kansas

Sounds like Pack was told by NBA scouts that he needs to show he can be the lead point guard and run the offense. Don’t think he’s going to even give us a look with our roster.

Agree! Like @lillurkmentioned,  pg is the least of worries. X's in season improvement, and most importantly, his maturity, proved to me he can be an elite pg next season. He does have a complete game! ( if he keeps his composure)

And don’t get me wrong I think IU will reach out to Pack just don’t think He’ll be interested in us. He’s going to have his choice of schools.
