When you are Nigel Pack you are more concerned about what bigs a team has than what guards they have. He’s an alpha

Then he'll go somewhere with good bigs and not many point guard options.  IU is not a unique option for him.  He can pick his spot from tons of teams.

Sounds like Pack was told by NBA scouts that he needs to show he can be the lead point guard and run the offense. Don’t think he’s going to even give us a look with our roster.

Where is this coming from? I like that players can get quick feedback to make more informed decisions these days. I believe it was just a little over a week (?) he declared for the draft.

Race and Trace are a quality front line that would rival just about any.

that makes IU a unique option. There aren’t 10 schools with a better front line than those two

Listed at 6'5, so I'm guessing 6'4

247 says he could possibly play/guard the 1-3 spots. I'm excited for this kid. I don't think he's a one and done talent, but I think he could get 10 pts and 3 ast as a freshman and really take off as a sophomore. I'm team play him and X at the same time. The last 3 National Champions played multiple point guards at once. Kansas kind of does it. UNC does.

There doesn't have to be ten.  There has to be one.  And if he is looking to be a point guard, it doesn't make sense for him to look toward a team that already might be looking at how to get two point guards on the court at the same time already.  Because Pack's decision isn't about what is best for IU.  It's what is best for him.

IU is a unique option, that’s the point.

wants to get to the NBA - play for a former nba guard and nba coach?

want to be closer to home and play for the state school that has a giant fanbase?

want to play with two bigs that demand attention and were both all-Bigten honorable mention and 2nd team?

want to play for a team that made the tourney but lacked a legit 3 point option?

there are crap ton of reasons IU is unique and offers a lot to a player like Pack and it’s odd to say otherwise.

It would be the remedy we have been looking for. He fills just about every need we’ve been lacking

I would love Pack, and I can absolutely imagine a three guard lineup working. But I will say: missing out on an impact transfer because:

-you’ve got the best returning PG in the conference,
-you’ve got a five star PG committed, and
-you’ve got an interesting stable of other 2/3s, including one who’s likely on a lot of “breakout sophomores” lists next fall

…is a good reason to miss. If that’s what happens, of course.

He'd instantly be one of the best guards on our roster, maybe the best.  None of our guards should be in his way.  Plus we still need shooters.

If he wanted to play close to home, he could have in the first place.  And some guys prefer to be somewhere different than where they grew up.

what’s odd to me is that it seems like there were tons of posters calling this a ‘dead program’ before the BTT as well as ‘quitters’ after the St.Mary’s game….yet we’re a unique option?

Right, I agree, but if he wants to go somewhere and be promised 33 minutes/game, PG role, shots, he can see there are some places with a larger need there than IU this year.

He’s terrific, probably the best available transfer, my comment was more to say we’ve been in worse spots in years past. Sometimes a Thomas Bryant-sized fit materializes when you need one, but sometimes you only get Evan Gordon.

Rabjohns called and talked to him fromthe article he wrote. Said that was what NBA scouts were telling him. He needs to show he can run the point for a team since that will be what he is doing in the NBA not playing the 2 guard like he has the last two years.

And yet... He will probably be getting run off the ball a lot anyways. Depending where he goes.

Link? I don't think it would be an issue to run a three guard lineup with one of the guards being on the shorter end from an IU perspective. It does make sense from his perspective to go somewhere he can showcase his skills to reach his dreams.

As I said in my earlier post I think IU will try, I just don't think Pack will have interest in us.

He played more pg his first year.   Played mostly off the ball this year.   New era.  Lol.   Sophomore with an agent. Like you said IU can make a pitch and try and tell him why playing the 2 would be better but if the player has his mind made up on what he wants to do then it doesn’t matter if any of us or the coaches thinks it can work out.    Trevor posted a great scouting report of Pack.  Really good stuff

Paywall? Agreed, doesn't appear to be a good fit from either side with what he needs and who we'll have.
