It's actually been a rule for quite a while now (stranger still: if you get ejected in the last game of a sport in the fall, you have to sit out the first game in the next sport you play......i.e., if you get ejected in a sectional loss in football, you have to sit out the first game in basketball season if you play basketball). For Lawrence North, hopefully it doesn't matter. They beat Crispus Attucks 60-39 earlier in the year. lillurk 1 Quote

As far as Ts go in HS.... HS basketball officiating in our state is regularly absolutely atrocious, so I would put zero extra thought into this. Is it, or is the real problem society, where we have to try and show someone up by being a jerk? I'm only 33, but I can't stand all the antics in sports. Bat flips, flexing, first down signals, 3 point celebrations.....some are harmless, but when you flex in another players face or something of the like, you deserve the technical. How about we act like we have been there before...just my take, old school, I know! IU Scott, jk34 and ALASKA HOOSIER 3 Quote

How about we act like we have been there before...just my take, old school, I know! No IN HS basketball officiating sucks. They are so sensitive. Old school is fine. Going out of your way to give a HS SR a T is not. I was told both of these Ts were weak, and I have noticed for a while now they are way more apt to do this crap and quite frankly I am tired of it. There is zero accountability for poor officiating/rude officials/complete assholes that are officials. So yeah, showboating gets old at times, I'm with you there... but I can't go along with it being a bigger problem than how awful some of these situations are handled. And, idk if it needed to be stated or not... but this is all just my opinion from coaching and officiating. Quote

I'd say the problem is both. That's an incredibly stupid rule. But yea... High school officials are God awful. It's all about home cooking no matter where you go and it's always beyond obvious and the refs don't care. Quote

I don't watch enough high school games to have an informed opinion, but especially at the high school level a part of what coaches and officials should be doing is teaching. Quick T's probably don't provide much in the way of learning. That said, I can't imagine that officiating is easy in today's world. lillurk and CSP 2 Quote

I know of a player who was ejected the last game of the football season who was then suspended for the first game of basketball (not from a school rule), but that was awhile ago. Separate note....I remember DeJuan Marrero (Bowman) get ejected in a regional game for two techs. The first was for hanging on the rim; the second was for hitting the backboard on a blocked shot attempt. Both were HORRIBLE calls, but he had to sit out the regional final. Don't recall for sure, but I think they lost the regional final. CSP 1 Quote

You'll notice his dunk at the 5:44 mark..... he gets a T after that for that silly look he gave to the other kid. If that's a T.... I just, I can't fathom why that should be a technical. I also can agree that if a kid flexes and gets in a kids face, I wouldn't mind the official stopping the game briefly and pulling the kid over and saying "son that was a great move, but we aren't going to tolerate you trying to show someone up anymore. Clean it up, now." Then go on with the game, kind of a one warning policy. From time to time there is going to be some emotion so I get that part too. cthomas and CSP 2 Quote
