Fair question: 1) He was mediocre at best in his only college gig at Bama—he undoubtedly did not enjoy the experience. 2) He has never been a college assistant coach, nor is there any indication that he would ever consider a relatively low paying position as a college assistant who would be spending his next few years visiting and texting 16 year olds.THE GUY HAS A NET WORTH OF $20 million! That’s a long way down for a former NBA coach of the year. I am certain that at age 55 he does NOT want to be watching AAU games and pretending to be fascinated by a teenager’s cousin/handler. 3) He has no recruiting ties in the Midwest or East coast. 4) In the past 15 years he has solely been a head coach. 5) He has no relationship with Archie Miller. 6) As much as I love IUBB, I am well aware that veteran NBA head coaches are not in any way interested in being second or third banana in Bloomington. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile appThat would of been a hard to convince him to leave Cuse. First question I would of asked if I was griffin would of been why not bring me along the first time around from Dayton. Griffin just bought a house and relationship with his college coach was going to be hard to overcome. Griffin and another guy unnamed guys were their first choices. UK could steal anyone’s guy probably if they wanted to unfortunately for IU. If he came to IU it would be his tenth stop in 24 years. Lots of one-year gigs. NCAA assistants live out of suitcases but this is a lot. Quote

Other than that... He's also completely out of the coaching game and wasn't a bad recruiter at Alabama and can relate guys and knows what it takes to move to the NBA. Obviously it's a far fetched idea, but he'd be a great candidate, even if it were just a stepping stone for him to get back into coaching on any level. Quote

Stuhoo Posted August 20, 2020 Author Posted August 20, 2020 So ... what the heck? We should be hearing some good rumors by now. Apparently Griffin would have been the choice; with him out of the mix, what (realistic) options are in the mix or on the table? Quote

I wonder if they will end up getting someone and not sign them until end of September. With dead periods and all. Mike Roberts took a lot longer than people wanted last time. I don’t think we really heard a ton about him until the end. Class of '66 Old Fart, 8bucks, HoosierAloha and 2 others 5 Quote

Stuhoo Posted August 21, 2020 Author Posted August 21, 2020 Very solid hire if true. A few interesting things about Coach Hunter: His time at NC State overlapped with Archie's = personal Archie connection His addition coincided with greatly improved recruiting at both Nebraska and UConn His son just had a 10.0 mpg freshman season as a point guard at Old Dominion He is a big man specialist, and has many NBA bigs that he has mentored. All good things. lillurk, BtownStrength, WayneFleekHoosier and 2 others 4 1 Quote
