Brass Cannon

So some concerns I’m having...

Recommended Posts

Archie chose to keep them. That’s on him. He could have let one walk and gotten Wright.

This is also true, but it’s tough to truly put that whole class on him. By the time he came on board, it was critical to retain the class. Maybe he could have landed Wright? But that’s pretty risky at that point.

All I’m saying is have some objectivity. 10 of 14 is misleading. 7 of 14 is probably too lenient. That said, look at who the biggest offenders of sloppy play are to date: Smith and Green, and who knows what’s going on with Clifton.

Well Smith has regressed. That can hardly be Creans fault. And then is it’s Creans fault that Archie hasn’t held Smith accountable.

What are people saying then??? People are saying that Archie hasn't developed a system and hasn't yielded results...what's that mean then. People are literally saying Archie is no good because he came from a mid major and they don't usually "pan out."

We are saying he needs to do something different. To work on things we clearly aren’t working on. And to hold people accountable. Why is Smith still starting?  Why did Newkirk start for so long?

Next year we have a starting 5 of Rob, TJD, Brooks, Hunter/Smith, Al. Green, Race, Hunter/Smith, Franklin off the bench. That's a top 10 team easy. We will find out a lot about this team over the next month and where we really stand but until then...I will wait to make an assessment especially if we get Brooks and TJD to commit here soon

I’m not so sure that losing Romeo, Morgan, McBob and Fitzner but adding TJD and Brooks vaults us into the top ten.

When a team performs well and executes the coach will rightfully get praise. When the opposite is true then the coach also deserves the criticism. If blind faith is how you support a program then ok. Some of us though choose to support the program by calling things as we see them. Right now what we see isn't good.

We demand success bure sure have not gotten much of it in 30 years . Louisville is a pressure cooker job and got pitino and mack to take jobs with them. Kentucky got calipari and kentucky is beyond a pressure cooker. Big name coaches want big name jobs. I honestly dont think any big names coaches wanted the iu job cause we are not a big time program anymore. I dont think it has anything to do with pressure at least for well known coaches.

It’s so true. Hurts like hell but true. We aren’t a big time program anymore.

I’ve been saying for 10 years we need to make changes with uniforms

I would agree with this statement being an old timer here. The candy stripes are the one thing as far as uniforms that should never be changed though. As far as Arch is concerned, his teams free throw shooting is my biggest concern now.

Rumors just like Donovan was. If it still registered we would have hired a more seasoned proven coach. Blie bl9ods dont have to hire mid major coaches. Just saying.

Or IU/Glass wasn't interested in a big name coach.  Not a stretch considering we hired a coordinator to coach football without even conducting a search.

A big name coach can want IU, but IU has to make the play for them too.

Coach K was 38-47 his first 3 years at Duke...they should've fired him. He didn't know what he was doing and couldn't produce results. What were they thinking when they decided to be patient and give him time...

Duke wasn't "Duke" before K.  And no one is saying Miller should be fired.

Nobody is having knee jerk reactions here.  There are those of us who loved the hire and will give him blind faith.  Those of us will not waive.  There are those of us who hated the hire and feel emboldened by getting the results we expected.  Then there are those of us who use critical thinking to process these results and vary their opinions based upon them.  This group seems to be the ones swaying to the concerned crowd.  Not knee jerk at all.

Results matter.  Trends matter.  Luckily for Archie, there are still plenty of chances to right the ship.  No excuses this year.

This is a very valid point.  Players have to improve as their careers progress and one-year rentals must be major contributors.  I don't like being a team whose success is highly dependent on freshmen.

IMO, the loss of Hunter has really thrown a monkey wrench into being able to predict our success.  We know Rob is already a pretty good PG who will be around for a while.  If Jerome is as good as we have been led to believe, I'd feel a lot more confident about the future (not that I'm pessimistic about it as is).  The problem is we just don't know, unfortunately.  The same goes for Race as well.  Forrester and Anderson are more typical freshmen who need experience before we can have an idea of what they might be capable of.

Thus far the sophomores and juniors just haven't shown that they are going to be long-term answers.  I think a few can be, but they really need to show it.

Has he regressed or not developed? Regardless, you shifting the argument.

I still have plenty of patience for Archie.

I’m hardly shifting the argument player development was one of the central arguments I brought up in my first post that started this topic.

Blindly believing that the coach has it under control hasn’t gotten this fan base anywhere in 32 years. Perhaps we shouldn’t wait till recruits have completely given up on our program before voicing concerns about things.

I was told to have faith in Crean for 5 years.  For no other reason than because. As a fan base shouldn’t go from unconditional support to running somebody out of town on the flip of a switch.

Is there a third option? After watching the video breakdowns on Inside the Hall he just looks lost at the moment. They all do.
