You said he ended up at Syracuse.  He ended up at IUPUI.  I'm not sure how this is even a debate.  Yes, he transferred to Syracuse, but he was awful there so he ended up at IUPUI.  My point stands.

You guys fighting over who was right or wrong about certain players is comical. Old friend has probably watched rob play and thought he would be good at iu. He also probably thought grant and Patterson would be good. He may be right or he may have been wrong we will only find out about 1 of them. But we were paying a man and his staff several million dollars a year to find us good players and coach them and i feel they thought that those players would be good at indiana and i hope they watched more tape and in person games than old friend lol. Some guys pan out and some dont u cant trash someone for being wrong because it happens to everyone

Speaking of our former coach.  Georgia beat Random School B by about 30 and had over 20 turnovers.  Good to see he's already got his "system" fully integrated.

 

EDIT:  Won by 39, 26(!) turnovers against West Georgia from DII.

If you are a different "Josh," then I do apologize; and if you don't think I can take it, you've not been around here long.   If you're the same "Josh," you know why I'm blowing you smoke.   If you're not, I'll drop it because you're right.  Wrong guy.   

But...if you're going to cherry pick; I was also right about Jeremy Hollowell from Patterson's same class, Bawa Muniru, Mike "Kong" White (who was going to come in here and dominate the paint according to many here), DeAndre Thomas, Tijan Jobe, Jeremiah April, Ben Allen, Guy-Marc Michele, Armon Bassett among others.  So I didn't "need this one," as you put it.  Well, I did if you ignored all of those in favor of cherry picking the ones you think I missed.

Patterson was not an awful player.  That's laughable.  He was an Indiana all star and one of the state's all time leading scorers.  He had some personal sh*t that played a large role in his demise; same as hundreds of other kids.  Had he been at Indiana under normal circumstances, you have no idea what he would have done here; and like you, I'll stand by my comments that he'd have been really good because I saw him play many times in high school, same as I saw Phinisee.

Agree that Crean spent very little time watching McSwain but Freddie wasn’t a terrible player in his two years at IU. Was a pleasant surprise last year under Archie.

Max Montana wasn’t bad either, it’s just amazing to me how quickly he offered certain players without sometimes hardly seeing them play the game.

I’m certain he had coaches he trusts to analyze and what not, but man, that always bothered me.

Patterson was at Syracuse for two years. He never averaged more than 2 points or 15 minutes. He shot 17% from 3 as a sophomore. He transferred to IUPUI where he did slightly better, but was never anything more than a role player. 

Gelon ended up at a place called State Fair Community College. He wasn't Matt Roth or Ziesloft and he wasn't ever going to be.

Not a knock on Freddie; he was a really good guy and played hard out of necessity and a crappy roster. However, he was a 6'4" center who couldn't shoot, and to consider him anything other than a weak player is questionable.

Hey; Wayne makes the point using the names of players who weren't scouted much and turned out badly. There are a few (maybe even Victor) who weren't scouted and turned out way better. 

I think that the takeaway is that when you aren't really sure what you're getting, the chances of getting an unpleasant surprise is much higher.

You talk about a straw man and then use one in the next post.  No one is arguing Patterson wasn't a good high school player but that's also not what anyone here cares about.  We only care about whether these kids end up being good in college.  Your logic regarding Patterson is basically that you saw him play a bunch of times in high school and thought he would be really good, he didn't turn out in college because of x, y, and z, so your assessment of his skills translating well to college basketball was still correct.  So basically the only way anyone could even argue with you is if they saw him in high school.

And honestly, would it kill you to say that your assessment of Gelon might have been slightly off?  You could still follow that up with you think its possible he could have succeeded in a niche role in Crean's system.  But at least it wouldn't seem so much like you view yourself as infallible.

Edit: I should say that if Phinisee continues to play at this level then  you deserve major kudos.  It seems to me most of the people who "were on the Phinisee bandwagon this whole time" joined it because of you.

• Head men’s basketball coach Tom Crean roamed the Stegeman Coliseum sidelines in a game for the first time on Thursday. But it was only an exhibition game, and Crean treated it as such.

He put every player in the game, sat back and watched. But he had some coaching to do at halftime. Even though Georgia was leading 44-25, Crean was afraid his team was going to lose . That’s because West Georgia was running a zone defense and the Bulldogs hadn’t prepared at all for zone.

On the fly, he taught his team a zone offense in the tunnel.

Georgia adjusted and beat West Georgia 98-59 in its final tune-up before the regular season commences on Nov. 9 against Savannah State.
