Morgan Ellison to miss rest of spring season

Recommended Posts

It still happens, though. The point isn't that every woman does this, it's that any woman could. Automatically believing the woman by default completely casts away the presumption of innocence. That's not a road I want society to go down.

I’m not saying we should automatically persecute someone the second a claim from a victim comes forth. I am saying we need to give way more credence to those claims than some in our society, and government, current apply.

End of the day, Indiana has way more information about this, and I’m confident they made the correct decision.

Not sure how this all works, however, Morgan was in class yesterday, even after all this came out. Not sure if the fact that he is appealing allows him to continue going to class (I’m not sure if he is appealing, but according to his demeanor I’ve heard, I assume he will).

I'm not sure how state law works but military law was, and I believe still is, you can't consent while intoxicated.  That means either party.  If both parties are drunk and hook up neither could consent.  If it takes getting a girl plastered in order to hook up with her you're not a great human being.  If you're letting your friends do it you're just as guilty, in my opinion.  For the ones still in college, look out for your friends (male and female).  One night of fun isn't worth it.

Star running back, star PG, star goalie, etc. I don't care who they are if they're going around campus being a POS human being they need to be kicked out of school.

Waaaay back in the day, I spent fall, winter, and spring in locker rooms playing the seasonal sports. Guys talked, probably lied, about what they did with girls. At no time did anyone indicate that the girl didn't want to but they did it anyway. I believe if someone did, the rest of the guys would have probably kicked his a$$. Mistreatment of girls was not acceptable to us. I don't know what, if anything, has changed, but I don't understand the culture that seems to be prevalent in today's society.

IU's policy is an absolute joke. I hope Ellison sues the crap out of IU.

"University denies the men accused access to evidence against them until shortly before their cases are heard. Once these cases move forward, IU’s system denies these students the ability to have a lawyer speak for them or question witnesses. It denies them the right to file counterclaims against their accusers. If the male students choose to not cooperate with the investigation — a basic right in American courts — IU punishes them by cutting off their ability to register for classes or even graduate. If they still won’t answer questions, the men know their refusal increases the likelihood that the University will conclude that they’re rapists.

IU appoints faculty and staff to preside over hearings, even though these people usually have no legal expertise and only a few days of training. Under IU rules, these hearing officers decide cases using a standard of proof that makes it much easier to rule against the men. When the hearing officers determine that students have committed rape, IU has never overturned that ruling on appeal. Sometimes the University rushes to wrap up cases before all evidence has been weighed."

The indignant outrage of rape culture.

Stop virtue signaling and actually read the article. If you think that's a fair system then I really don't know what to tell you. I sure as hell wouldn't want you on my jury. If you were falsely accused of a crime and lost everything you worked your whole life to build you would be singing a different tune. But, you're so far up on your self-righteous high horse that you can't put yourself in someone else's shoes for even a second. Instead, to you everyone who speaks out against a biased sham system is a rape enabler. Get a clue, dude.

I not not referring to just this case but all similar cases.

He allegedly raped her.

This is obviously a serious crime and/or accusation.

Why in the world is this a university case?

If there is a rape charge, or any other serious case, it should go to the local cops.

If this happened at Eli Lily they could not say “ stay out of this local prosecutor, we have this handled”.  No, it would have gone to the police just as this incident, and all other serious cases, should.

My former employer handled things the same way IU handled this. Which is one reason I said former

IU is not a court. Don’t tell me to get a clue when you can even figure that out.

Go and tell that to the young men who have been thrown out of school after being falsely accused of rape. No matter what they do for the rest of their lives, that allegation will hang in the shadows. To people like you, they'll always be rapists, even though they never did it. Frankly, I'd love to see how you'd react if you lost your job after being falsely accused. It's not a court so no big deal; right bro? Because that's exactly what you and others are implying. He's not going to jail so it's no big deal that he's being kicked out of school, even if he might not have done it.

You continue to ignore the women who are victims. Rape culture.

Why not make up stuff about her being drunk or about how if it happened she would have gone to the police.

Staff and faculty should decide the fate of a student doing something such as cheating on an exam.  When it comes to felony accusations, such as rape, the school should call the police and leave it to the cops to sort things out.

They put faculty through a few days of training and then expect them to be able to handle allegations that are difficult even for trained professionals. It doesn't make any sense at all.
