Whojainjawja Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 It looks like CTC could land in Athens soon. He received a $4 million buyout when he left. Does anyone know if that was a lump sum, or to be paid over time? If it were over time, would IU be off the hook for the balance once he is hired? Thanks. Quote Quote

If he were to get $2 mil per year from IU over the next 4 years his annual salary will come off that amount. If his annual salary is $2 mil per at his next job IU won't owe him anything. Whojainjawja Posted March 15, 2018 Author Posted March 15, 2018 UGA offered Matta $15 million for 5 years so I would think CTC offer would be in the same neighborhood. If that is the case IU only had to pony up one year, unless his ESPN pay counted toward buyout deduction. Quote

I can only say to those looking to hire Coach Crean that he is an outstanding coach and is worth more than his previous coaching position paid him. Get him until contact as soon as possible because he won't be available very long. Str8Hoosiers, ThompsonHoosier, Iugradman and 7 others 7 2 1 Quote

Gahoosierfan Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 Glass never should have given Crean and extension and raise. That is a major black mark on his record. He kept Crean around several years longer than he should have. Josh, darB s'tI and Iugradman 3 Quote

Did anyone happen to catch the last "Earn Your Stripes" podcast with Dave Anderson? He talked a little about Glass and the athletic department. Now he is a good friend of Crean's, so his views may be a little skewed, but he didn't have anything good to say about Glass. He basically said people that worked under him described him as lazy, two-faced, and said he didn't have their backs. I believe he described it as toxic a few times. I guess I've never really understood a lot of the criticism of Glass, but it sounds like there's something there. It was actually a pretty good episode. He talked a lot about the team that won the B1G and how they turned it around. Iugradman 1 Quote

Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app He didn't go into a lot of detail, but did say he was just relaying what several employees had told him. He was hired to give a leadership talk to the athletic dept. and also said Glass never bothered to show up. I'm just going off of memory, but I think it was about 15-20 minutes into the podcast. He also said he had a whole chapter in his book dedicated to Yogi - Fight Like Ferrell. ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote

Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Actually, that might have been at the root of it (though like most, I don't know for sure). After the nice two-year run with the Zeller-Oladipo team (except that damn Syracuse game), in the next two years, we didn't make the NCAAs, then barely made it. And after winning the B1G in 2016, we stunk the next year. ... In an interview after he got fired, Crean essentially said he thought he deserved a reset after 2013, because he lost Cody and Vic to the NBA (although shouldn't as a HC, he have been prepared for that?). And he was disappointed that after 2016, he didn't get an extension. ... I think to him, having a decent season every 2-3 years was good enough while I think the athletic department's message was: "You're getting $3.3 million a year. That's not good enough." ... I could be wrong (and probably am), but I wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't a big part of them "not being on the same page." ... Also, maybe scheduling had something to do with it. At news conferences in firing Crean and hiring Archie, Glass seemed to express some disdain over the awful non-conference slates we had been playing. chicagoHOOSIER, Str8Hoosiers, ThompsonHoosier and 8 others 11 Quote
