This type of stuff isn’t helpful. The facts are/were that Archie identified that kid early on as a priority and that kid chose Purdue. Is it possible we backed off, sure. Not every kid we focus on early becomes the player we expect but when Archie invests a lot of time into a kid and that kid chooses Purdue it doesn’t look good. Nobody said we would never recover

Why do people keep saying two open scholarships? Currently we have 4 and that’s without transfers or anyone leaving for 2020. Seen that a couple of times now.

The collective freak out when Morton chose Purdue is what's not helpful, because it's clear that it was for nothing. Everybody was reacting based off of outdated rankings, even though it was clear that he was being passed on the AAU circuit. People were so desperate to believe that we were losing our recruiting momentum that they were reacting without facts, and as it turned out, getting up in arms about nothing.

Morton had clearly become less of a priority, and it's now evident why. Evaluations change, and Morton's changed quickly, both for Archie and for the scouting industry. I was pretty sure before that Archie had backed off, and seeing these rankings I'm almost positive now. He's now nearly the lowest ranked player that we'd be pursuing (Galloway is just 2 spots behind him). If Morton had committed to Indiana, and then his ranking had fallen 60+ spots, people on this board would be freaking out about how Archie prioritized the wrong guy, and now we're stuck with an overrated guard when there are so many others that we could be pursuing.

Yes, there's still a chance that Morton spurned IU even though Archie told him he was a top target and chose Purdue. But what's more likely? 1. A guy who had IU listed as one of his top schools and had scheduled a visit then deciding to skip the visit and not even include IU in his top 4 schools, or 2. a coach deciding to prioritize guys that were more skilled and had clearly surpassed Morton? The only way 1 is realistic is if Archie did something to completely infuriate Morton, and that seems extremely unlikely.

I think Windham will become a household name in the Big East and a guy we regret not offering when it seemed like he would’ve been ours to lose had we offered. Kid can flat out play and is a knock down shooter, something we definitely lack.

Good point. I’d rather keep a scholarship open for 2021. 

But a lot of that depends on if somebody develops. Maybe Al or Franklin. And can handle back up

I'm thinking a three man class (two guards one big.) 2021 is a massive class in-state. I'll take a 4 man class there (Lander, Furst, Kaufman, Goode). I don't see IU getting a top 50 player (unless that player commits and explodes during the season). I'd love Love (no pun intended) but I think he goes elsewhere. Phin is running the point for three more seasons. From realistic options I'll go with the following: 

#1 RJ Davis

#2 Matt Cross

#3 Anthony Leal

#4 Trey Galloway

From what the experts have said I'm confident IU is going to get Cross and Leal. Only way I see Leal going elsewhere is if IU gets a guard that is better than him (Love). Sounds like the family wants to make sure he is a top priority at IU. 

2020 can be a solid class. I don't see any future All-Big Ten players. I see more of a Justin Smith and Al Durham like class. Solid role players in the first two years and could be starters after that. 

I just hope in two years we are talking about a Phinisee, Lander, Hunter, Furst, TJD starting line up. These guys would be perfect role players on that team.

Rankings don't mean everything but this is pretty underwhelming...hope again that we can grab another grad transfer guard or pull a rabbit out of a hat somewhere.
