That's interesting, thanks for sharing! Do you think it would've affected you differently/more had their primary target been a guy at your position?

I honestly never thought about it, so this is my opinion 20 years later. I don't think it would have bothered me. If the coach came to me and said the spot opened and took the condition off the offer, I think I would have accepted.

Reason? Because the coach was upfront the entire time. It wasn't shady at all, it was clear and open communication. If he was shady about it and stringing me along, then my feelings would probably be much different.

That makes a lot of sense. Always knowing where you stand with a coach and knowing that you can trust him is definitely a positive during a tricky situation like this.

Someone was saying they didn't like Green at PG due to his size and length. Does that same person like Phinisee?

Not looking to pick a fight I'm genuinely interested.

That was me!

I firmly believe that Green is a two guard with a point guard sized body. But, he's not quick enough to get past other point guards, and while he makes some beautiful slick passes, I don't think he's wired to be a floor leader.

I think that he's a great third guard because he's tough as hell and can function at either guard position, but he'd be best suited for a team with a 6'5" point, so that he can guard the other teams point but be the secondary ball handler on offense.

That makes sense. I thought length was an issue on defense. I see what you're getting at but disagree with his abilities. He might not be a true point but think he could run a team given the right pieces around him.

I believe there's gotta be a point guard skill that prevails on offense:
-> either length, quickness to get past other points, or really high end savvy and vision.
I'm not saying that DeVonte isn't a helpful piece, but I don't see him flourishing in any of those areas.

This is sorta why it's of my opinion that PG is the most important position. IU had talent last year but no difference maker running the show. I fear IU is going to be in the same situation for two more years.

Is RP that guy? Can Langford do it? A junior Green? Akinjo?

Garland I think could do it. Still not sure our other pieces are strong enough, to really be a top flight team, but 1 year of maturation could change my mind.

I'd give Langford a shot.

Otherwise a junior Green is our best hope, barring some recruiting surprise.

I don't think RP is that guy year one or two and I'm like his biggest supporter on here. Honestly, I see no tangible solution. I don't think IU is in great shape with Garland. I don't see Akinjo as a solution early on. DeVoe isn't coming this way. Current roster, idk. Maybe impact '19 guard.

I don't base this on much, but I also want to make sure that Al Durham isn't a potential answer at pg. He has good vision and he gets past people to finish. Handles? Probably not enough, but I want to find out.

This is why I'm hoping for a sophomore leap for Green and then a junior leap again. Seems like our best hope. Langford experiment would be fun at least. Durham will get some chances to show this season. We'll see.

CuJo ran point at HP, but he doesn't seem comfortable enough with his handle in tight spaces.

It is a bit of a conundrum. Garland could have the keys like Yogi did.

He seems infatuated with the 1ndone premise of Duke/UK.

Agree on all points.

Honestly, a bit interesting.  Word is he's been impressive this summer, jumper is consistent. And not like coach speak. I was/am very skeptical of him so, it'll be interesting for me, at least.

I loved how he played in the Derby Classic. Absolutely loved it. I know, I know; it was a sloppy all-star game.

But I was completely taken by surprise at how intuitive he was on that court. And he's so damn creative on the move near the rim.

I'm intrigued by the talk too. It also could be an indictment of our current guards.

Rooting for him. One of the more likeable Hoosiers in a while for me.

If CuJo turns into any kind of answer anywhere I will be flat out shocked.

His problems seemed to be between the ears last year to me. He was great in Hawaii and then it was all down hill from there. He looked shell shocked out there at times. Hopefully he can turn things around this season.

Honestly can't remember standing next to a HM player skinnier. Cliff is step one, but agree, tons of growth needed mentally with the game.
