The idea of building strong connections in state only holds if Rob goes on to get what he's promised and has a good career.

If he gets recruited over and never really excels at IU then that is the opposite of building strong relationships in the state.

I disagree completely. Archie isn't selling a 4 year starting spot. He is offering him a spot on the team and a opportunity.

Recruiting over is a myth in my opinion. It's  up to the player to keep his spot, don't get passed up. Meritocracy, the best players will play. If RP wants to start at indiana he will have that opportunity. It's his job to earn it. Look at Michigan football, Harbaugh started the 3 star unheralded QB in Speight over the instate 5 star QB in Morris. It's all about competition and whoever earns it will start.

I agree in premise. Just not sure RP will be good enough to be get big minutes. Like I said that is up to the staff to figure out. PG is a position we need upgraded ASAP. I don't think RP is that guy. We may be better just letting Langford (if we get him) run the offense.

What's J. Lyle doing this year after OSU?

I'm not advocating him being here (AT ALL)genuinely curious if he is still playing college basketball. Maybe I could tweet ND Kendrick. Lol.

Guy was part of getting a HOF coach fired and getting a mustang and escort service from Louisville.

You don't think he'll be good enough right away? Or at all?

Right away. As far as "at all", I think he has a lower ceiling than others due to size and athleticism but who knows how much better he'll get.

Like I've said, if Archie takes him he has a plan and I'll trust it. My concerns in general is he isn't a top 10-15 PG now and his ceiling is lower than others too.

If we were taking a "project" PG, I'd rather have with a higher ceiling. That is all.

R.J Barrett named us in the past, but do not expect us to get highly involved. Kid is either going to Kansas or Kentucky with Oregon as a dark horse. This really helps us elimate the crowd for Romeo. I stated in the Romeo thread, Barrett coming in 18 really helps us get it to U of L and us with UK and KU focusing on Barrett for now. Could change, but only helps us if anything just a little. Also have heard as good as Romeo is, remember V.J King was a 5 star and they have Ramey & Simons coming with Simons garnering talk of being right up there with Romeo rank wise in the new rankings. Romeo knows he would play at U of L but he MAY not be "the guy" there. He will definitely play but that could end up being a factor, but not sure how much.

"His ceiling" how do we know what a 17 year olds ceiling would be?

That's what scouts are paid to assess. Sometimes they are wrong. Athleticism (Natural ability and traits) plays a major role in that assessment.

I'm not going down this road again. You like RP, I know this. I think his rating adequately describes where he is at, at this point.

He is over 6'1"all, decent length, he jumps high enough to dunk. I think you are over thinking his lack of athleticism. Jordy Hulls lacked athleticism and was the PG for a top team. Coverdale lacked athleticism and lead our team to a title game. It's all about how a coach develops the player and the drive the player has to get better. There is no reason to think RP is going to be a bust at this point.

Question for Pap.  Do you foresee any more offers being made in the near term or does Archie go into a holding pattern until spring?

Holding pattern until fall-ish. Dominoes fall, he could go about offering. I like how it was structured. Watch a few times, eval, offer. Wish there weren't a few non-committable offers though, gotta say.
