Someone was saying they didn't like Green at PG due to his size and length. Does that same person like Phinisee?

Not looking to pick a fight I'm genuinely interested.

Don't think I said that and like him as a player. I just think he's a SG with some ball-handling flare. Worried about handling the ball consistently.

Non-committable offers are part of the game, so it's not like Archie is unique in the practice. But it doesn't play well according to AAU coaches, who can be very protective

What is the point of extending a non-committable offer?

I get your point, but it's perceived as the opposite. Say one thing, do another.

If/when we are a destination school, then being 2nd choice can still be very attractive. Works for Duke, Kansas, UK, etc. (Jordan Tucker, countless others).

I can also see how it can be a turn off.

To me, this is the hardest thing in recruiting.

He is over 6'1"all, decent length, he jumps high enough to dunk. I think you are over thinking his lack of athleticism. Jordy Hulls lacked athleticism and was the PG for a top team. Coverdale lacked athleticism and lead our team to a title game. It's all about how a coach develops the player and the drive the player has to get better. There is no reason to think RP is going to be a bust at this point.

Never said he'd be a bust. I think he's good. Is he as good as we need to be national championship contenders at some point.
Hulls, love him. Liability in several ways, we could have been better.
Coverdale. Love him. Less of a liability than Hulls. We could have been better.

See the trend?

I think Green could be a great upperclassmen at point if he values the ball.

Defense
Shot making
Driving ability
Can make the great pass at times.

Shows a player you are serious about them. Also implies you aren't their first choice. Slippery slope.

Of course I've never been in this situation so I don't know for sure, but I feel like if I was a recruit and that happened to me it would rub me the wrong way. I guess it depends on how bad the kid wants to go to the school and if he can get past not being the first choice.

Yeah, slippery slope. But as these primary targets wait until Spring it's going to be a difficult problem for a while.

Yep, definitely a tricky balance a coach has to try to reach. Don't want to take a lower ranked kid when you have the chance at a higher ranked one, but you also don't want to miss on the primary recruit and be left with nothing. Tough job to do.

Also, food for thought in regards to PG.

We felt like we had to have Tremont Waters last year. Didn't get him. We'll be okay.

We felt like we have to get stud PG this year. Might not get one. We'll probably be okay (Green/Durham/whoever we recruit).

Always next year.

Other side of that is you get your high rated point guard like cat barber, Malik Newman (miss st), jalen Adams, Fultz, Dennis smith, or even lonzo ball and still not make the tournament or don't get past the sweet 16
We got our pg. This is the year
Always a fun debate on this I always enjoy having every summer like clockwork. I wouldn't have it any other way

Any way for us on the outside to get a sense of who's getting the firm offer and who's getting a non-commitable offer?

When I was being recruited the school I wanted to go to most told me they had one spot left in the class and needed a pg (I was a 4/3 during my recruitment, though ended up playing the 2 in college) and they were recruiting one hard, but if he passed I had an offer and would be next in line.

Though disappointed, I had no problem with it. I guess maybe it's a little different because their primary target was a different position and one they needed, but it didn't bother me at all. The coach was clear and up front.

The pg they they were tracking ultimately accepted, so I ended up going somewhere else. But, I would have accepted if he passed.

That's interesting, thanks for sharing! Do you think it would've affected you differently/more had their primary target been a guy at your position?
