The guy is from and of the east coast. We've recruited kids from there for, what, 17 years since Knight left? He's an NBA guy, now. That's not Indiana's culture in my mind. It's just not. I didn't say you said it was the only qualification, but I copy/pasted your whole post. What else did that one say? Winning is not the only fit, either....hence my Calipari reference. It has to be a cultural fit too; and if you don't understand that, you're either too young to have the same view I do or you don't understand Indiana's history in the way I see it. All of that matters. Again...my opinion. You don't have to agree with it. There can be no "legit" reason with you. I know it and you know it. Just because hes from the East coast doesn't mean he will recruit there. And just because hes in the NBA now doesn't mean he is going to act like it when he comes back. You can have an opinion. Thats fine, but when its not backed up by anything other than how you feel you can't expect people to think very highly of it. Andrew_114, Walking Boot of Doom, Scooter D and 4 others 7 Quote

He does not (friend of mine was an assistant of his at Marshall) 5) Someone who wants to recruit locally and has relationships locally. He does not. Hes been there less than 2 years, if he dislikes enough to come back to college I doubt that makes him an NBA guy Donovan is going to get Recruits here just like he did at Florida and its going to be easier because of our facilities So in 1) he got knocked for working in our back yard. Yet here he gets faulted for not having iworked in our backyard. Quote

We just need someone who can coach. And I'm not worried about recruiting relationships in our state either, because our next coach couldn't possibly butcher them like Crean did. What makes that an informed opinion? I'd love to know. Quote

Like I said, you see it different than I do. Some of the opinions here seem idiotic to me; like people have no idea where they are or why it's important. That's because I see things differently than you do, and I don't expect you to agree with me. That said, I don't expect to get attacked, either. You're entitled to your own opinion, just like I'm entitled to mine. I don't agree with you. You don't agree with me. So? We need a lot of things. Not "just" anything. I'm very worried about relationships in our state because recruiting the east and south hasn't exactly worked out very well. Tom White 1 Quote

Problem is, Brad Stevens is the only real guy that fits that mold and like you said, he's not coming. So, you move on to your second option and Billy Donovan is looking pretty damn good to me. Proven winner, back-to-back national championships. I mean, would you really not be happy with a BD hire? I'm honestly not trying to "attack" you rather just curious - who do you want IU to go after? Popular Post sirhoosierlot Posted March 17, 2017 Popular Post Posted March 17, 2017 I think we really need to move past the romantic idea of a "fit" at Indiana. To me a fit is somebody that can A) Win and B) that's pretty much it. To compete today, we have to modernize. SteelerHoosier, RedsIUfan, ThompsonHoosier and 8 others 11 Quote
Baltimore Hoosier Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Donovan would be the best 'somewhat' realistic hire in my opinion.. 4 final fours and 2 national championships already. Played the game very competitively. Has coached at the mid major, major college, and NBA levels. I just don't know if he would want to leave the current gig to come back to college.. The "fit" matters; and he's been able to consistently recruit Indiana kids no matter where he's been. Just food for thought, as I know he's not a popular choice. I don't think his resume matters much. He'd be FAR better at Indiana than either Miller brother or Billy Donovan; and I simply do not understand the love affair with Donovan. I know he has a great resume, but he's not (in my mind) a fit at Indiana. This place is still unique and has its own culture. He and that culture don't mix.. Wtf. I pray to God no one in the athletic department thinks like this. Also, if forcing a priest to bully a rape victim into not pressing charges against a player is part of the "fit" or "culture" here, then I'll go ahead and root for Butler. mdn82 and RedsIUfan 2 Quote
