He has recruited on par with conference. The conference os bad right now and we are tenth in that bad conference. Nationally we arent close to the caliber and depth of a Championship contender.

Never said we were. Someone asked a question and mentioned Michigan st I just pointed out iu has been recruiting on Michigan st level by the rankings.

Yeah you may be right with MSU but izzo does not have to be a great recruiter to win.

Of course he doesn't but that wasn't the argument. That just goes to show you rankings isn't everything you need to be solid in all aspects of a program to win big ( recruiting, coaching, player development, strength and conditioning)

I actually never really mentioned rankings in my comment. I suggested that TC was not a great recruiter and pointed to unbalanced classes and rosters and the diamonds in the rough stuff only.

Izzo is successful because he knows what he wants and recruits it. Creans rankings may be on par with MSU but Crean seems to struggle more with how to build a team out of that talent.

Tom Crean is not a great recruiter.

agree on izzo. For us fans he doesn't seem to be a great recruiter anymore but within the industry it is viewed as one of his strengths

To be fair it is one of his strengths. He's not that good at it. He's really bad at the other stuff is all

I just think that if you gave the players we have had the past few years to a coach who can define roles we would have had much greater success. Not everyone on the floor should have the green light to shoot at the first opportunity. The whole "play faster" and "positionless" basketball experiment needs to go. Most of the time our offense / defense resembles something I could watch at most city parks on a summer day.

IMO, there are 3 areas a new coach needs to be evaluated on (aside from obviously running a clean program):

1. Teaches fundamentally sound, team basketball.  Smart decisions and solid defense can help overcome #2 & #3 to an extent.

2. Accomplished recruiter.  Is able to identify talent and needs.  Assemble a complete team.  A great recruiter (blue chip city) can overcome #1 & #3 to an extent, but we must get a fair share of highly rated and in-state players.

3. A demonstrated record of winning.  Past performance is no guarantee of future success, but is the closest gauge I can think of.

Ideally we can find someone that excels at all 3.  I would want to avoid any coach that fails at any of the 3.  For the record, on a scale of 1-10, I would rank Coach Crean as a 4, 6, 6 for a total of 16.  We need a new coach that scores into the 20's.

As for CTC as a recruiter, I think he's shown that he's good at identifying talent.  Unfortunately, for whatever reason, he's failing more and more at signing those players.

We need a coach that gets pissed when it isn't going right.  Demand what he wants or take a seat.  Not always so positive which leads to no player learning a lesson.  There is always a place for encouragement but there is also a place for "if u don't wanna play MY way, have a seat."  Kids gotta know who's boss.

Crean does this to the 1-2 players he wants creaned. To "try" to make an example of! But obviously it doesn't work on the ones he wants to get that point across to

Pretty easy to "identify talent" when you throw out as many schollys as we do.  Even a blind dog can find a fire hydrant.

I dont want this to get ugly. I believe if we are forced to suffer through another year of Crean (combined with the projected roster next year) this will be extremely ugly. Do it now is best for both sides.

If he's back next year idk what I'll do. It'll make me not want to watch a single game (even though I'll watch all of them) I just won't be excited for the start of next season

I think that Crean is a great recruiter. But what it boils down to is the fact that he isn't an Xs and Os guy. Down the stretch time and time again he gets out coached. It's time for a change.

I think the recruiting thing is way overrated. We always lack something. To many guards,Not enough shooters,No point guard. No depth underneath,so on and so on.His scattershot aproach lends to unbalanced rosters and we suffer while he chases the next shiny object when theres not a chance in hell we will get them.

To plagiarize Josh,FIRE HIM,THIS IS EMBARRASSING!
