He is always going to win just enough games not to get fired. I could see him still as the iu coach six years from now.

So you think we're going to win a title within the next six years then? Only way that happens.

Holtman would not be the flashy home run hire. Idk. It would be a basketball upgrade but I'm still not sure on this one.

We don't need a flashy hire. We need someone who can recruit Indiana and run a fundamentally sound team. Our resources and fanbase aren't going anywhere. The rest will fall into place.

I'd be on board with this.   Today, Butler was down 16 at the half and came back for a win.  Butler second half:  0 turnovers, 20-of-27 FG, 4-of-5 3s, 21-of-26 FTs.  Holtman must have made just a couple of halftime adjustments don't you think?

Halftime adjustments?? That's crazy talk. Stick with the gameplan no matter what! Play fast!

FIRE HIM! This is embarrassing

Of course i dont but i feel he will always win just enough games and sell enough tickets to make the admins happy. Its all about the money to them imo.

I think that Crean got a pass to a degree in the 14 and 15 seasons due to the lopsided recruiting classes he had to take on early on at IU and the subsequent gaps that were going to occur after the 2009 class left. Throw in the buyout Glass was tied down with, and until this season there really hasn't been an opportunity to fairly can him. Everything is fair game at this point. It's not about the money for the admins with the cashflow the BTN and Fox deals are currently bringing in and will bring in starting in 2018. Glass is going to start feeling a pinch on his own job if he fails to take action.

Maybe true but its still several years away. The hot seat would need to be red hot and its maybe luke warm at best.

I agree with this, but I think if we do make a change, he's the first person that Glass would call.

Our AD wants someone he can get along and not butt heads with, and the administration doesn't want a larger-than-life hire that would make basketball the tail that wags the dog at IU.  I believe Dakich when he says this.  Glass wants a guy that's the rah-rah type, hence why he could get rid of Kevin Wilson so easily and replace him with Tom Allen.

I feel like Holtmann would make both Glass and the administration happy.  Glass would feel like we got a good coach experienced in Indiana who could recruit the state, and the admin gets a guy who won't be able to essentially hold the university hostage when he wants to, ala Knight.

Which is a shame, because I feel like if we pooled all of our resources and had everyone working toward a goal of hiring the best coach possible, we could get someone like Stevens or Bill Self or Billy Donovan.  Sadly, I don't think the administration wants that.

I wouldn't totally hate the idea of Holtmann though, he is a good coach.  Just not a home run that I think the program needs right now.

I don't have the slightest idea why anyone thinks that a coach who wants to remain in the college game would ever leave Kansas voluntarily.

There are actually a plethora of reasons.  I know it's a heck of a long shot too, I'm not an idiot.

But sometimes a guy wants a change of scenery, new challenge, and last of all, MONEY.  If we could offer him between $5-6M/year, we would effectively double his salary.  BTN money is real.

And oh yeah, Roy Williams literally did exactly what you just said.  I don't care if he "went home" or not, he left voluntarily.

Holtman has impressive wins and seems to know what adjustments are. Honestly, I'd say this is an upgrade over Crean.

Crean is a motivator, a seller. He's not bad at developing, but he can't coach a team on a floor together.

Tend to agree. Not likely. BUT, maybe the guy is bored. I mean they win the conference every year. Recruiting would be easy for him here. New rivalries. A competitive conference. Best home court in the game. Never say never....but not likely.

I just think after this year would be great to fire Crean. We're underperforming when we shouldn't be. And next year we don't have a great recruiting class coming in. We have been talking for years about 2017 Indiana's recruiting class and we missed every single one of them. We can't be scared to have some kids leave because we'll possibly get others. This would be a perfect year to start new
