TOM CREAN FIRED

Recommended Posts

Bottom line is nobody would care either way if Crean was a better coach. Crean has turned me off so badly I didn't even realize there was an IU game on tonight until after it had started.

Okay. Thank you for proving my point. This isn't about the strength coach.

Get players who understand the importance of what it means to play for the candy stripes and also understand that playing for the candy stripes is a privilege and not a right.

If only they could vet them better...send this message here, he'll pass it down (iuad@indiana.edu)

Wait, so should Crean not curse like he has pledged to and doesn't, curse like Bob Knight, or somewhere in the middle to be best effective? I've seen it all here. Sterling knows how to pander to this fan base for sure.

Agree. This is a "bigger picture" issue. No, it's not a big deal if the SC coach sits on the bench, and by itself it's kinda' dumb, but that's not the point. It's that he's completely over the top animated and vocal. We ALL root for the kids and he has a vested interest; but on the team bench is simply not the place for his antics because it makes Indiana look cheap. We expect to do great things on the floor, don't we? We have to have professionalism on the bench. We have to set an example rather than act like a kid. Don't we act like we've been there before? Don't we worry about minor celebrations behind closed doors once the game is over and we can talk about what we've really accomplished? He clearly loves the kids and loves when they do well. And that's GREAT! It's terrific to have allies. But tone it down or sit behind the bench with the fans.

I think Old Friend's comment sums up the reaction as it relates to Anderson. Cursing was a side topic altogether. I was just trying to say for me personally, cursing coming from a head coach doesn't offend me. Cursing has its place and I'm okay with it, but I'd rather it be from our head coach if necessary. I was trying to separate it out into a second talking point.

You guys make a ton of assumptions in trying to understand Anderson's relationship to the kids on the team. But that's okay, it's not about winning games, just about the IU brand....which may or may not be related to winning games at this point.

The cursing thing, I respect your view Wayne, just really don't get how it matters what authoritative role you're in and how it becomes acceptable vs unacceptable and how you or most understand how that relates to this specific team...

i think it's a judgement call on the cursing. Hard to pinpoint. I think there are specific times it's appropriate. Only people within the circumstances will know if it's lost its edge or not.

If you constantly curse at all refs/players it becomes white noise. If you do it seldom but when a point needs made, it becomes highly effective to ref/player. Like I say hard to judge.

My thinking on head coach vs random individual is back to the thought of one voice. If players/refs are being cursed at by random and multiple sources on the bench it's unorganized, classless, and loses impact.

As far as the relationship with SC coach, I imagine it's a strong relationship and friendship. I also think Anderson is trying to pump up the players and light a fire. I am ok with this too. Just seems like it was overkill.

I don't even know why I am still talking about this, lol. Not a big deal, not nearly as much as Sterling said, but it did rub me wrong as I watched too. Whatever that even means.

@KentSterling: Indiana Morning Sports List – Top 8 things that need to change for IU Basketball to become successful. #iubbhttps://t.co/7lGqOkN8hm
#3 has been my point for a long while.
#4 is sadly funny.
#7 has sparked a big Twitter debate.
THOUGHTS?

Merry Christmas everyone although my present won't come until after this season is over. Sterling's comments are spot on and very tragic considering this is our Indiana he's dissecting. The whole grand history of our program revolves around getting the best from our own state, great defense, and great coaching. Sadly, we have none of that. Watching the Crossroads classic and Indiana fans cheering more for Butler than IU should say it all. Butler is the new IU, and until Crean is gone, nothing will change.

Yep. The distaste for Crean is filtering down to his staff now. To me that's a toxic situation.

It does filter down, and yes, it may be toxic.

But one must remember, Crean is the guy who hired these guys to fill positions on HIS staff. That means that the halo effect is germane, and very much a part of this. If we don't like the way the HC is coaching or running the program, doesn't it follow that we won't be happy with the guys who take their marching orders from the same head coach?

Sorry.  I am late on this particular topic.  I did see the SC coach on the bench and give Crean a "man hug" before the team took the court for tip off.  For some reason that stuck in my head.  Surprisingly there is a discussion about it this morning.

The more I look into this, the more disgusted I get.  Why is he on the bench?  Is he the team motivation speaker?  For who?  the players or the coach?

If he has this SC coach on the bench for anything, that shows that he has lost total control of this team and has given up.

I am so sick of this "everyone wins" tee-ball team attitude.  Why do these players need someone to motivate them?  That is the downfall of this team.  If this team needs motivated, then it needs to come from the Head Coach.  If this coach doesn't get his message across then sit their ass on the pine until they get motivated.

I have been upset with past seasons before but this is the first time that I have been disgusted by what I have seen.

Huh? I was there and it had more to do with PU than Butler. Many fans left before the 2nd game. The anti PU sentiment came from PU trash talking before, during, and after our games. That's why almost half of their fans left before the end of the game. Hell in the section beside us we had one fan in the middle of a large section of IU fans doing IU sucks thing most of the game. That annoyed a lot of people. I was absolutely impressed with Butler and said so about their planning and preparation going into that game. As for the crowd statement you are off.

Purdue fans are truly a pathetic lot. I'd tell them to act like they've been there before, but they haven't.

That game was pure karma for them. Butler is far and away the most stable and consistent program due to foundation laid 15-20 years ago. With the right people from the athletic department down we will be back far quicker.

I don't understand why people get so upset with Anderson on the bench. He is charting stats (although I'm sure it's some pointless Crean stat). Je'Ney did the same thing when he was here; however, he did it in a suite and tie.

These kids spend the most time with Anderson as he is the only one that can be with them for much of the summer. I'm sure he's a friend and motivator. Someone there to help stay positive.

Also, how is he any different to the Football team. If you watch any IU game or most college football games, you can see the S&C coaches on the sideline pumping guys up and going crazy for big plays and picking them up on the sideline. One of the Football S&C coaches is usually wearing some sort of cowboy hat too.

On that note, I'm like most others where I have lost the intense passion I used to get for IU games. It's the same old story, no defense, bunch of turnovers, hope that we outscore the other team. Giving up 39 first half points to that team last night is truly pathetic. I can't stand watching it anymore. PLEASE let there be a change this offseason.

Serious question.. Do any of the current top 25 teams face any of the same issues detailed in the Kent Sterrling article? Are the S&C coaches frantic on the sidelines at the other top 25 schools? If not, then what in the heck is CTC doing?

It's classic obfuscation. If you cannot create the genuine, then use smoke, mirrors and hype to try to imitate the genuine. That's one thing that Crean's pretty good at.

*clap clap clap*
