I've thought this for a while.  If the administration wants to bring the program back to dominance they'll go for the home run, knowing the offer everything it takes to win big at this level.  If they're okay with mediocrity then they won't.

Yep. You have to go for the home run. IU speaks for itself. This place has everything to succeed. And it's a blue blood of NCAA basketball

Yeah if Paps rumors are true then Glass just needs to go because that's not a blue blood hire. That's not even a program on the rise hire

Wow, thanks for sharing.  I'm hoping if this is true (not doubting you), Donovan doesn't harbor any negative feelings towards IU from this for backing out or anything.

So this would have been the year we lost to Wichita State in the first round of the tournament, correct?

I can actually understand why we didn't pull the trigger that year.  It was still too early imo.

I don't think it was too early at all. IU got lucky that they were in the tournament in the 2014-2015 season. That was two straight awful years after the Syracuse debacle. It was the perfect time

It wouldn't be the hire the fanbase wants/needs but I wouldn't view it as a bad hire - at all.

I'd view it as a very good Plan D hire.  And I don't mean that as a slight to him, just that there are other more proven guys we should be targeting before it gets to him.

Speaking of Fran McCaffrey, he says NO WAY Indiana will fire Crean. Goes on to explain why. 5 losses less than 5 pts. Players playing hard for him. He more or less called the fanbase crazy for how we are reacting. Lol. Who wouldn't want to coach against a guy that studies "coaching" more than he studies "basketball".

He's never made the tournament. He will this year but before this year his teams were Terribad

He had to rebuild at a school that is very hard to recruit at.

I'm not saying he's great but he's unproven. I think we can do way better as well but there is a reason why his teams were bad before this year.

McCaffrey also thinks the basketball is talking to him. He's a psychopath. At least he kept his team that was ranked in the top 5 from missing the tournament last year. McCaffery should be happy that basketball is the #2 sport in that season(to wrestling) or he'd be gone too.

Northwestern has 4 20 win seasons in its basketball history (he was 2 of them). With regard to his teams not making a tournament, he took over a program that has never made it to the tournament. I'm just saying his situation is a little more complicated then he has never made a tournament

Coaches always have coaches' backs. You know that obviously. But Fran is legitimately a nutcase lol.

Aren't his teams schedules Creanesque in their cupcakeness?

Not saying he's a bad coach but he's not ready for a program with conference championship aspirations. Let alone NCAA championship.

Donovan would be a program turning statement hire that would have IU competing at a high level.

I don't know how he feels about returning to college ball but you'd have to believe he would be interested in Indiana if he were.

I see the problem on the other side with IU not willing to do what needs to be done to get Billy the Kid. I think we see a hire in the up and coming tier. Hopefully the people who make the hire have done their homework.

If we go up and coming with this hire then it needs to be made clear to Glass that if another new basketball coach is needed a new AD will be doing the hiring
