How much talent does he need to win though? There was some crazy stat that he's had more first rounders that have not played an NCAA tourney game than any other program in the nation.

Trust me I get it, but they hired his dad too. Things would be ugly. I think they see what Porter can do. His brother as stated above is thinking of coming too. That would be a lot of talent with Davis too. Fultz is great but dont really have anyone else. Last year was pathetic though. Criss and Murray and Andrew Andrews I still dont get how they didnt make it.

It was a comment he made once and in that moment I decided I was ready for a change. I still wanted him to succeed, mind you, but now I just want this era to end.

I'll start with some context. We all watched the Hollowell debacle unfold. The pouty half hearted performances night in and night out. Well there it was: Jeremy finally hit a jumper. It was smooth, in rhythm, all net, hell I think he even smiled. He didn't make it to the half court line and Crean had someone off the bench to sub in for him. Later in a press conference he said this was a philosophy of his, to take a guy out of the game after a successful moment. So they could reflect or some nonsense . I'm paraphrasing here, but the point is this: Anyone who has played sports has an understanding that when you hit a stride you play it out for its duration, let the magic unfold. Maybe in some competitive yoga league this is a good practice, but this is basketball, and that may be the single most ridiculous thing I have ever heard a coach say.

More recently Davis and the Wisconsin game. Coach said it best: They didn't have an answer for him. Correct, so let's sit him for most of remainder of the game.

More games that I care to remember, guys would get rolling, we would be up by 10 or 12, and then a platoon comes in and we are down 12 within minutes. Never a  timeout called during these momentum shifts and there is Crean clapping, flipping through his charts and grafts, or pacing like a chained animal.

No feel for the game. None

Lol he really said that it's his philosophy to take guys out when they're doing well? Yikes he's clueless. I can't think of any possible way to rationalize that.

It was freshman he was referring to. Again I am paraphrasing,  but yeah, in a post game interview he threw that bit of wisdom out there. I wish I could find the comment. I remember looking over at my Dad and asking if that was somehow a joke. Unfortunately for us fans  he meant it.

I think at his next job, once he no longer has assembly hall or top talent to mask his deficiencies, he will drop way down the ladder. Maybe not even a top 75 coach in the country.

He will definitely be top 75. Let's not be that drastic. He did fine at Marquette before here. 4 trips in 5 years to the tourney. Everyone thinks it was his final four run. He missed the tourney the next year then made it 3 straight years with 24 wins or more. He has a knack for finding under ranked kids. He has misses yes but OG, Vic, Diener, Matthews, McNeal, Wade & Jimmy Butler who he recruited but signed w Buzz as well as Novak. That is just guys who made the NBA. Zeisloft & Sheehey were two other really good finds and I think Clifton Moore will be one as well. He will be a top 40 coach maybe better and will have whatever team close to the tourney each year. Difference is at IU that isn't okay. He will find somewhere it is and probably succeed expectations there. I just hope for his sake he doesn't use it to land another high profile job. He struggles under pressure too much and hates fans talking too much obviously. Missouri or maybe NC State would be great for him. I think he needs to go down south though. He doesn't have good relationships on west coast or really here.

I honestly don't care what players may transfer if Crean is fired, change must be made for the betterment of the program.

If a player leaves bc CTC is leaving to follow him, they don't need to be here! I'd really hate to see De'Ron make that mistake.

Someone mentioned Tubby Smith being fired from UK. After 1 NCAA ship, 5 reg SEC's, 5 tourney SEC's. his biggest problem during his tenure was Donovan's teams. And for some reason or another he hasn't ever been good at recruiting. As far as X's and O's go, guy can coach imo!

For those that's saying 2 B1G in 4 seasons crap. Please, stop! Outside of that, guy has been nothing but inconsistent at best! Back to my point, Tubby was fired with having way more accomplishments. Whether or not that he is going to get fired discussion, shouldn't even need. Shouldn't be very hard Glass

I see where you are going with this.  Crean will land another top job because others see the expectations at IU just too unrealistic ... then Crean will beat the new IU coach late in the tournament.

It was in the vein of having them finish their stint/shift on a positive note. That theory can work in practice to keep the 'correct' method to do something in their head, but in a game situation I feel that that methodology certainly messes the team up as well as the development of the player.

An L tonight will sure continue to spike up some articles across the internet.

And an "IU plays well and books an upset 15 point road victory" tonight?

I think that'll expand the fanbase chaos even more. Do you agree?

You're right on it my man. Tubby Smith won a national championship and all those regular season SEC championships and SEC tournament championships. And yet, he was fired because of underachievements in the NCAA tournament. He made it to just the one Final Four in his first season. Subsequently, he won his lone national championship that season

Rick Bozich is quite possibly the sportswriter that does the best job of encompassing the reality and the essence of IU basketball's current situation.

I consider this article to be the required reading, all-encompassing, not-a-Crean-hater, objective analysis of where we're at.
