TOM CREAN FIRED

Recommended Posts

Absolutely. If yall feel strongly about a coaching change, this is it. Empty the stands. It's hard, it's a moral decision about also feeling like you are abandoning players which don't deserve it. But the band aid has to be torn off at some point.

I've not attended a game since one of the first cupcakes, last year. No more money shelled out for this coach. I seriously hate having to do this. My wife even called to tell me she had Nebraska tickets in the cart. I told her to cancel and remember that we are boycotting Tom Crean. It's the only way I feel I can be effective, as a fan.

Maybe a better plan is to let coach have it, but still be at the game. I don't think it would be effective though.

Yeah, this is extremely difficult to do. How to support the team but not the coach?

Despite my frustration, anger, etc I still had my candy stripes on last night and plan to going forward.

I can't believe we are at this point with IUBB.

And as a side curiosity. Does tv viewership register somehow with IU athletics? Curious about the average fan just no longer watching. I plan to watch if nothing else is going on but I'm done turning down overtime and skipping family time to watch IU ball.

We are projected to finish 9-9 in conference and 19-12 on the season... I would hope that is enough to sever ties finally

Really? I thought we were projected as one of the top three in the conference

Indiana Basketball is so tremendously popular that attendance and fan support will always, always be there. Always.

There is no need to boycott games or boo (though that is certainly anyone's prerogative). The very high end boosters are sitting court-side and taking in the in-game experience just like we all are. They have become high-end boosters overwhelmingly while being very successful in life, and doing what needs to be done. They can gauge the success, the organization, and the potential of the team as well or better than we all can. If the Tom Crean era is trending down, they will act accordingly.

Remember, and I believe this is very important: Tom Crean has three years left on his contract after this year, and if necessary there are many boosters who will easily cover the buyout. At the 'three years left' mark, it is time to either extend or move on. If we don't, 2018 recruits will have no expectation that the coach they are signing with will be there for their junior year. That's huge.

I'm on the same boat as you. I live in Bloomington, probably 13 minutes away from the Hall. Could probably go to every IU game for less than 30 bucks each game (student ID) but refuse to do so.

Yeah kind of like Stu said...I think IU basketball is too big of a deal with too big of a fanbase to successfully boycot. People can stop buying their season tickets, but there will be a line of people there waiting to ****** them up. The TV ratings will still be high. The interest will always be there. We had one of the highest attendance %'s in the B1G during the dark years.

It sucks, but I think we'll just have to trust the people up top to do the right thing at the right time. Not sure how much of a voice the general fanbase actually has.

Edit: My censored word is sn-atch lol. That's a new one.

Don't disagree with any of you guys about seeing some of the same issues every year.. It's crazy to see the pre-game comments, then see the team come out and do exactly the opposite of what he was saying. It would mean Crean is a complete failure and basically a total moron with zero idea of how to coach. Either that or the players don't want to play for him?

Regardless of which is true, it supports the theory that Crean is NOT the guy for Indiana.

There are a lot of folks that are being openly critical of CTC tonight. Many of them are people who I could of swore I'd never see be critical towards him.

Just out of curiosity....

On this Board?

Boosters?

Administration?

Sources?

Crean simply isn't a competent coach. It's up to the administration to do what must be done at this point.

Would love to see Glass call another unscheduled presser - maybe Crean could go to tOSU, too.

Sadly we have to wait this year out. Come on losses pile on up. Go Illinois.

Its like the Dark Knight things are going to have to get worse before they get better.

It's not just us, but almost every article I've read from people who get paid to follow sports are totally bewildered by last night's lineups and substitution patterns.

A good friend of mine sent me his analysis of our team and I think he's spot on:

Crean recruits talent alone without any regard to how the pieces fit.  I don't think those guys know their roles.  Most "teams" have 1 or 2 go to guys for scoring - a primary scorer and a couple of secondary options.  They have a couple of guys who can play lock down defense - a couple of players who can rebound and bang on the boards.  But they understand their roles - Crean's teams (and this one especially) don't seem to have an identity - players don't know who their main scoring option is.  It is a mess.  76 was Scott May with help from Benson and Abernathy, defense provided by Wilkerson and Buckner.  Isiah was 81 with Wittman and Kitchel as secondary scorers. Turner and Tolbert I think on the boards.  Alford in 87 with help from Daryl Thomas on scoring - everyone played defense except Alford according to Knight.  Butler's teams have looked similar to Knight's - they know who is supposed to score, who is supposed to rebound, who is out there for playmaking and defense and they stay in those roles for the most part.  My two cents - crean didn't play the game and he is so concerned with signing 5 star players he misses the team concept.

Why not flood the AD office with emails, rather than complain on our board 13 times a day? It may do nothing, but the complaints will be seen and noted.

To what end? A boilerplate response saying "thanks for your support. blah, blah, blah" penned by some 3 level secretary?

Vote with your wallet and your butt - keep both out of IU and Assembly Hall until the change comes.

Question -- If Crean manages to turn this around, we finish a game or two shy of the Big Ten regular season title, but we do well in the Big Ten Tournament, not necessarily win it, but we do well. And then in NCAA we make the Sweet 16 but lose a close one to an extremely hot team who would beat anyone on that night. Would you guys want Crean gone?

Yes. He's mediocre at best... He had Cody and Vic and couldn't get past Sweet 16. What's it going to take for him to get farther? Tom Crean is NOT my coach and never will be. Doing what you suggest will only forestall the inevitable... and continue the slide towards basketball hell.

I'm fine with that. I'd gladly burn this season to see CTC coaching where he belongs - at the D3 level...
