You talking about this one? http://www.crimsonquarry.com/2017/1/3/14160242/wisconsin-75-indiana-68-three-things-from-the-hoosiers-third-straight-loss

If so, yeah I thought a lot of it was just backtracking on what people were saying preseason, or even after the Kansas game. The comment that we never had a top 15 roster really got to me, cause it simply isn't true. College ball is watered down. That comment just seemed like someone who said preseason how good we'd be and now acting like the roster isn't good. Just reminds me of all the people that talked up Newkirk all offseason, and now we see that well he isn't good, was nowhere close to being ready to fill in for Yogi.

Yeah that's the one. A rotation of JBJ, Rojo, OG, TB, Davis, Morgan, and Newkirk/Cujo/Green sparingly is easily a top 15 rotation. We have gaps in our roster like most teams but you're not going to find 15 teams with a better collection of players than we have. We look like crap sometimes but that has a lot more to do with the guys wearing the suits on the sidelines than it does the talent of the kids wearing the candy stripes. If you gave our team to a number of other coaches I think they win a heckuva lot of ball games.

So the last part, do people think high school kids have that much forethought? I mean when I was in high school I know I certainly wasn't thinking that far ahead, then again  definitely wasn't an insane athlete planning on playing in the NBA at some point. I think 2018 kids wouldn't think about it as much, especially if they only plan on being here for a year or two, but 2019 and 2020 kids certainly would hesitate

You're ignoring the fact that opposing coaches are going to use this to their advantage. It wouldn't be the first time.

I pointed out last night that Crean completely nailed the pregame interview on his radio show and the game went pretty much exactly like he had forecast. Inside out play and outside in play, experience, creativity around the basket for Wisconsin. IU players had to not over-help and get hands in the faces of shooters on defense, etc.. I would love to be a fly on the wall in practice or have the opportunity to give players truth serum and find out what, exactly, about Crean's coaching, doesn't translate to the game.

That being said, I still don't understand some of the substitutions. I don't get why our set plays look so unorganized coming out of a time out. I don't understand why Crean plays Mr. Nice Guy and doesn't bench kids for being careless with the ball, making stupid errors, etc.

The one thing I will say is that the players last night did not do some of the simple things they should be doing in order to win that game. Too many open shots from the perimeter. Too many careless turnovers. Bryant has to have the slowest post moves I've ever seen, and his defense is atrocious. Davis should start getting starter minutes.

Players not doing the simple things...? That's been the case with most of Crean's players. Coincidence????

We've seen all of the issues this team has pretty well every year, I can't put any of it on the players at this point.  A new issue we haven't seen before, or have rarely seen, fine, but that's not the case.

He's either not teaching what he talks about in the press conference, or he isn't get through.  Either one is on him.

It's definitely a pattern.. But how much can you blame things like untimely turnovers, poor ball control, what seems like low IQ plays, and not understanding where defenders are on the head coach? Would starting over with a new regime solve those kind of problems?

It seems like at Indiana, its a blame the coach when things are going bad and praise the players when things are going good mentality. I'm just as guilty as anyone of doing this, but that doesn't mean its right. I think it makes for a good conversation.. I mean where was this thread after Indiana beat Kansas or UNC?

I think it all comes down to accountability and discipline. Crean struggles at getting his messages across and also some may not be best anyhow. Never benching kids who deserve it but subbing kids on a roll don't teach accountability. Crean has the same problems over and over on and off court or both. I had hoped he changed and figured it out but he has not and it is obvious. I am tired of answering what is wrong with iu to every dang person who knows I am a fan and for that alone I want him gone but also cause I hate watching iu play like crap. When a coach can suck the life out of my passion for IU he has done what was once though impossible. Thanks for proving me wrong crean

9 years of players have had this problem it's not the players it's the guy that's supposed to be teaching them these fundamentals of basketball and holding them accountable when they are careless.

you are as guilty as any here, but I don't think that is bad or wrong. I see you playing devils advocate now but that position is against everything you know to be true.

The kids are taught to play fast fast fast and when fast doesn't work we are clueless. 9 years worth of teams under Crean and still nobody knows how to feed the post. It's insanity

The latest from Hutch - http://www.heraldbulletin.com/opinion/terry-hutchens-column-what-s-wrong-with-iu-basketball-here/article_a4916a10-d2d0-11e6-93a4-27cd70a244dd.html

I found myself chuckling as I read it because it's a perfect composite of what almost everyone on this thread has said in one way or another.  If it's so darn obvious to the world, why can't CTC see it?  Why can't his assistant coaches?  Are they nothing more than 'yes' men?  Maybe a housecleaning needs to start with the assistant coaches.  At this point, we seem to be living "The Peter Principle" with our basketball coaching staff in toto.

And for those who are scratching their heads and saying what the heck is "The Peter Principle" see:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_principle       One of the key points made by the author - "In time, every post tends to be occupied by an employee who is incompetent to carry out its duties."   Is this where we are with our coaching staff?

I know what Crean is but Ive wondered about his staff so many times. I hope there is an insider waiting to right a book when this is over.

Well, to paraphrase a family member of a former player, "Crean is threatened by people that know more than him so he would never hire a truly competent staff"

They may all be former head coaches but they weren't successful head coaches. Crean has been a head coach for 19 years and has little to show for it in regards to his assistants becoming successful

I've never been impressed with any of them. That includes Chuck Martin.

Our coaching staff is underwhelming to say the least. No wonder McClain left. He saw terrible coaching and got out of here.

Or a head coaching position and a raise? This is the sorta stuff that makes this thread ridiculous and I'm not picking on you, Treesh. Thats the first post I read today.

Crean isn't the guy but bring a logical discussion
