TOM CREAN FIRED

Recommended Posts

The recent play is either fool's gold, or....it isn't.  If it isn't, and Indiana makes a run this season both in conference and in the Big Ten, all of this "fire Crean" talk will die down.  That said, one year here and there isn't what fans or the University are looking for, and no matter what happens this season - even if we go undefeated and win it all - won't solve the consistency question.    Winning cures almost everything, especially when a team looks as good as Indiana does right now.  I don't think we'll ever be done with "fire Crean" until he either proves he can win consistently or......not.   Right now, he looks great.  The team looks great.  That can all change in a couple of games.

true story. Looking forward to see how things develop. I honestly don't know if we flop or not. But, I have hope again, and that is awesome.

Same here. I have no complaints at the moment. Actually enjoying watching the team, with how well they are playing. Really hope we see it at the right time.

That is why im intrigued. CTC has a huge ego from what people have said. If he has changed his ways....props

I wonder what it was though. Why change now after all these years? Was it the mounting pressure? Did the players finally get through? Was he literally forced to by insiders/boosters? Interesting as hell.

I have been as critical of Crean as anybody. But what he is doing now is intriguing me. Not even to change my mind yet. But if he sustains this then I could see myself changing my mind.

-This is the first year we are hearing he is letting up on the team. So hopefully they don't fade. This is something I have been critical of.
-This is the first year where I can remember him using the bench as a learning tool for turnovers and lack of defense. This is something I have been very critical of.

I think these two things are just so critical for the team. If Crean can sustain this type of team culture, I think it will lead to more success as a program.

Where did you see he is letting up on the team? Is this in relation to the high intensity of his practices or letting up in a different way?

Yep that's what I meant. Sorry for any confusion.

Great. the recent article that discussed the sprints they had to run for excessive turnovers was all I could think of about something like this.

I think this will make a big difference but who knows.

I could be remembering this incorrectly but didn't this come out a few years ago as well?  I believe he was saying pressers that they were practicing less only to have "in the gym" come on here and post he was working them harder than ever.  I have no idea who "in the gym" was but they were right far more often than wrong.  I truly hope he is learning from past teams wearing down at the end of seasons and is making corrections.

On the film watching...  I remember Oladipo saying he was in watching film all the time and that was when he took another step up on the defensive side of the court.  Yogi has been saying he's watching more film lately.  Hopefully he is dragging some others into watch film too.  The team and players still have a ton of areas for improvement.

I think Crean said he was cutting back on practice time and after the season was over, Cody Zeller said in an interview that they were still practicing 4 hours a day in March.

Whatever happened to "in the gym" anyway? That guy was plugged in.

That must have been it.

Not sure, what assistant coach did we lose recently?

Oladipo did a ton of work on his own.  He played on a summer team with Sheehey between his freshman and sophomore year; met some coach during that time, and used that guy individually.  He watched more film on opponents and on himself, did new weight training, lots of shooting, ball handling, speed and agility; and voila'....his sophomore year, he was a new player.
