TOM CREAN FIRED

Recommended Posts

Tired of so called IU fans blaming the coach for everything. Been a long time Hoosier fan but some of this crap that is posted is ridiculous. It's always "The sky is falling" after a loss. They got beat plain and simple.

Just stop with the "so called IU fans crap." We all have gripes and they've been the same ones for his entire tenure. All valid and substantiated year after year with the team's poor performance against teams with less talent. If criticizing Crean irks you so much then why don't you just avoid the thread? There are plenty of Pro-Crean threads for you and the rest of the real IU fans to congregate in. Leave us to one of the very few forums, on this site, that we can voice our frustrations with our coach.

Alright guys choose a damn side.. I'm tired of everything being okay then all of a sudden it's not. Seriously this just makes our fan base look bad as a whole. Yes, Crean makes mistakes but getting rid of him would not better the team. The players love his commitment and development. He learns from his mistakes eventually Ex: Beilfeldt starting. Can we just let this go and stop speculating who will coach when it's pointless?

A better coach wouldn't make the team better? That's a new one.

I don't care if his players like him. That worked out so well when it landed us Mike Davis.

My main problem with all this is saying that it is one game. It is one game this year, but it is the same thing that has happened year in and year out for multiple years. There was a large portion of the, as you would say so called fan base, that did not want him back this year. With that said when he loses a game this year he is going to get this kind of reaction because people do not want him here and haven't now for at least a few months and some for multiple years.

The one thing I do find funny is that the IU Facebook page advertises wins immediately after the game, but when we lose they do not post anything. It shows that they are feeling the heat and want to try to avoid it.

You guys have got no knock this stuff out. It's November, we lost to a team we shouldn't have, Crean coached a very questionable game, players played terrible. If this is what's going to happen anytime we lose then my god guys you are some miserable people. I would have no problem with Crean getting fired, but we better be bringing in someone better. If you thought we'd just breeze through this invitational then you had unrealistic hopes(yes I thought I would be with Vandy or Kansas as well). November tourneys are meant for this, to show your weaknesses, and yes we have pretty much the same as last year. I also see a great learning experience for Bryant and he needed it. It's not like he can practice against guys like this in practice, glad this will bring him back down to earth in some of your eyes.
The last thing I have on the matter is just step back and hopefully watch this team progress and get better. If we don't then at the end of the year start calling for Creans head, hell I'll be joining you, but I just don't see the point of trying to see every mistake Crean makes and whining about like it's going to change. He's our coach this year no matter what, so while the season is going on calm down and watch some basketball, whether it be good basketball or bad.

It's man to man defense how hard is it to cover your guy and help as needed!!!!

It's not hard in concept. But you have to want to play "d". I always say good defensive teams play with an edge and energy in any sport. It's not as easy as staying on your man and hope for weak side help. Then hope they recover. It is as easy as saying if they play balls out effort defense good things will happen. And you don't always have to over play the passing lanes and try for steals every possession. Play solid d and let their offense make the mistakes and capitalize. And for god sakes buck up and play physical basketball

Sorry to the mods in advance.

But dude, get off your pedestal. Just because you're fine with the current state of the program that doesn't make you a better fan than anyone else. SO sick of one side of the fan base calling the others out as not being true fans because they don't agree, both extremes do it.

I agree. You have those who think if you say anything negative then you aren't a fan. Just like there are those that do nothing but say negative things and always seem to dissappear when something good happens. Both extremes are extremely annoying to deal with.

1)  I couldn't care less if the players love him or not.  The way this team loses is now a multi-year pattern, and the coach hasn't improved at all.  We expect him to develop players, and we see them doing Navy Seal training....which doesn't do one thing for decision making, defense, or movement.  Why shouldn't we expect HIM to improve?  He's never won anything...you'd think he'd be working to get better, too.  But no....we get intramural basketball.

2)  Crean is all about Crean.  All you need to know is what he said when Devin Davis got hurt :  "I stayed with him all night."    All of the human interest stuff?  I'm convinced lots of it is phoney.  I've talked with the man, and he's plastic.  A nice guy, but plastic.   Hell, he's told anyone who'd listen for the entirety of his tenure that he's part of the Harbaugh family and coached Dwayne Wade.

3)  People get their hopes up (and it's generally expected that EVERYone buy in or else be chastized), but then come to the stark realization that not only is the coach never going to change and therefore his results won't, but the trustees and administration apparently don't care!  I think that's the frustration as much as anything.

4)  Anyone who claims people who are critical are anything but IU fans has clearly never played a competitive sport in their life.  When people see things they don't like, they're critical.  I don't have to blow crimson smoke out of my arse when Indiana loses to Wake Forest to be a fan.  I have to give a sh*t to be a fan.  Wildly and blindly cheering despite poor results and despite under-performance doesn't make you a fan.  It makes you an idiot.  It makes you a lemming.  The opposite of love is not hate.  It's apathy.  When Indiana has as many off-court um...episodes as this team has had, losing a game the day after your team publicly posts a picture of itself flexing on the beach, and in the same way it's lost games for the last 5 years....it's simply not okay anymore.  Enough is enough.

5)  Crean is predictable.  We'll kill the cupcakes, drop a couple to some decent teams we think we should beat, lose most of the big games but win one or two, end up 21-8 and a #7 or #8 seed, and lose in round one or two.   That's not good enough for IU fans....I'm just sorry that it seems just fine for IU's administration who apparently doesn't care about IU being exceptional.   Instead of "just win," we have "just be interesting."

And the ole ball coach will tell everyone who wants to listen how big those wins were but hide behind assistants when the Wake loss is brought up.  THAT'S our leader.  And we expect players Yogi and Troy to be leaders for this team.  Where will they learn it?

If I thought Crean could actually make changes and develop the team I wouldn't be bitching and complaining.  We'll see some big wins in the Hall against a few top teams and shit the bed against a few conference cupcakes then have the February/March slide we've seen every year sans one.  Rinse and repeat.  If the coals start burning early maybe the seat gets too warm and he has to stand up?

Just thinkin' out loud but I wonder what the support level will be should we (god forbid) lose a second game in Maui and (god forbid #2) get waxed by Duke?

Yeah, me too. It could happen.

support of the team or of crean? I would hope everyone by now knows crean can't get the job done and he should go and those that still support him will not be swayed by any on court failure in the future. The team will have a lot of support but not sure about attendance at the games that might get rough
