I agree that losing Oden was an absolute killer for Davis. It would still sting a bit these days but “back in the day” Davis was screwed because he didn’t have a decent alternative but these days the gap could be closed quite a bit (but not all the way due to Odens talent) by shopping at the “big man store”. The portal has significantly lessened the necessity of landing any specific HS kid.

I guess when he got his raise he didn't get an extension. So this will be year 4 of 6 on his contract. With the way recruiting works, they'll be at the point where they need to either extend him or get rid of him.

What he did was garbage and there's no chance that the head man didn't know, but Michigan didn't win a title because of him. His self-importance is hilarious and he's about 25% as smart as he thinks he is. I liked that the doc had him say his piece and let the viewer decide how stupid he is. A lot of what he says in the first half of the doc related to his time at Navy and his "system" is just outright BS.

Given our recent portal success and our high quality late high school additions, I am considerably less anxious about high school kids decisions. Would really like to have him, especially since we have been talking about for a long time. However, I no longer see anyone as a must get.

We need a big win to open the eyes of the fan base. All of us “IU internet warriors” are excited about Cig and the upcoming season but I just looked at sections 103-110 along the sideline, between the 10 & 10 yard lines on the IU bench side, and there are TONS of available seats. Disappointing, because I felt Cig was generating a buzz, but winning a few games should turn that around quickly.

Living in Palm Beach County Florida, I was kinda hoping that IUFB moves to FBS and makes it to the Boca Raton Bowl.

I agree with everything except extending him with an E8 appearance. Our biggest failure over the last 20+ years is sustainment. Personally, I'll be elatedly shocked by an Elite 8 out of Woodson, but either way, he needs to show he can put together more than a good year here and there. He needs to show that he can build the program for yearly success, especially if he's going to depend so heavily on the portal.

Unfortunately, the thrill of doing so is lost on me so I guess I will just go back to waiting patiently to see how this all plays out.

We already have Nevaeh Caffey, not to mention Maya Makalusky. Caffey can do everything Beckham can do. We need to commit to the development and eventual stardom of the top players we recruit. Was there even room for Beckham at IU? I question that, and she may have questioned it, too. I know some of the top programs like UConn "stockpile" players. UConn has a "survival of the fittest" spectacle going on at guard this year, with 9 players vying for 2, or maybe 3 starting spots. The result will be a number of high school All-Americans sitting on the bench. That is sad.
