I have heard from too many reliable people about a mutual departure being set up for me to think it's not happening.

It's pretty amazing that IU has gone 5 full recruiting cycles ('13-'17) without recruiting a point guard.

Parrish and Norlander had a pretty extensive conversation on Friday's podcast about Crean and why NC State (or leaving IU in general) would be a smart move for him. They made a really good point in that the "damage" is done with the fanbase. There really isn't any coming back from this, it's only going to become an uglier and uglier divorce. I don't have a problem with positionless basketball, but that's not really what IU is doing. What has plagued IU for the better part of three seasons (excluding the 2nd half of last year) is that we're a 3-guard lineup team masquerading as positionless basketball. Positionless basketball is typically a rim/protecting, rebounding big and a pg-ish type player surrounded by a bunch of long, athletic, multi-dimensional guys that can shoot, pass, defend, etc.. We trot out a line-up of three 6'2" guards and call that positionless. A positionless lineup would be something like RoJo-Troy Williams-Hartman-OG-Bryant.

And Robert Johnson. And Juwan Morgan. And Thomas Bryant. All guys that are PGs

Also, our last Indiana Mr. Basketball was 2011. Maybe Crean meant closing the border was his own ability to whiff in IN.

Would love to see him on the staff,but as an assistant.Would have to think he would help recruiting instate.I dont think he has the experience to lead a program like this.I wonder why he left too but suspect it was a compatibility problem with Crean.

In the recent past Crean said if there's one thing he's learned in 9 years it's that everything falls on him. He didn't already know that? That might be the only thing he's learned in 9 years here, which is one more than he learned from Izzo. Granted he said that after essentially saying "it's not my fault and here's excuses x through z, but I'm not deflecting blame" so I'm not sure he's even learned that.

I don't think enough attention is given to Greg Marshall. He is an Elite coach. His Winthrop teams nearly pulled off some historic upsets against top seeds in the Tournament. Moving up a level, to Witchita State, he has elevated his success further. He has made the final 4 as a 9 seed and the sweet 16 as a 7. His "down" years still include tournament appearances and conference titles. Given IUs resources, i think he would replicate his success in the BIG 10. He would be a home run hire. Tier 1: Stevens, Donovan Tier 2: Marshall, Bennett Tier 3: Miller, Collins, Few, White Tier 4: Disappointments We shouldn't settle for anyone outside of the first 3 tiers imo. I think they would all be successful at IU. If we could get anyone in the first 2 tiers, it would be a home run. We would be viewed as elite again. Stevens and Donovan are both unlikely, but Marshall or Bennett would consistently compete for BIG titles and high seeds in the Tournament. We would have a shot every year. We would be the premier program in the BIG 10 again. I think that's what everyone wants.
