  1. Randle El, Dunbar Named To 2019 College Football Hall Of Fame Ballot Former IU quarterback Antwaan Randle El (1998-2001) and running back Vaughn Dunbar (1990-91) are on the 2019 ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, the National Football Foundation (NFF) announced today. The pair were two of 25 Big Ten nominees overall - most of any conference for this year's ballot. Randle El earned All-Big Ten honors three years in a row (1999-2001) and earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors in 1998. A Big Ten MVP and a first team All-American in 2001, Randle El was also sixth in Heisman Trophy balloting after finishing 13th in 2000. Randle El was also the first player in NCAA history to score 40 rushing touchdowns (45) and throw for 40 TDs (42), the first to record more than 2,500 total yards in four seasons, and the first to both pass for more than 6,000 yards and rush for more than 3,000 yards. Following his four seasons at Indiana, Randle El was selected him 62nd overall in the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played in the NFL for 10 years with Pittsburgh and the Washington Redskins, and was a member of the 2005 Super Bowl champion Steelers. Dunbar finished sixth in the Heisman Trophy voting and was a consensus All-American in 1991. He finished second in the nation in rushing yardage (1,805) and all-purpose yardage (2,330), both of which currently rank second in IU single-season history. Dunbar, a former junior college transfer who spent two seasons with the Hoosiers, was chosen with the 21st overall pick in the first round of the 1992 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints. He played the Saints from 1992-95 and with Jacksonville in 1995. According to the NFF, the criteria for Hall of Fame consideration include: • First and foremost, a player must have received First-Team All-America recognition by a selector organization that is recognized by the NCAA and utilized to comprise their consensus All-America teams. • A player becomes eligible for consideration by the Foundation's Honors Courts 10 full seasons after his final year of intercollegiate football played. • While each nominee's football achievements in college are of prime consideration, his post-football record as a citizen is also weighed. He must have proven himself worthy as a citizen, carrying the ideals of football forward into his relations with his community and his fellow man, with love of his country. Consideration may also be given for academic honors and whether the candidate earned a college degree. • Players must have played their last year of intercollegiate football within the last 50 years. For example, to be eligible for the 2019 ballot, the player must have played his last year in 1969 or thereafter. In addition, players who are playing professionally and coaches who are coaching on the professional level are not eligible until after they retire. • A coach becomes eligible three full seasons after retirement or immediately following retirement provided he is at least 70 years of age. Active coaches become eligible at 75 years of age. He must have been a head coach for a minimum of 10 years and coached at least 100 games with a .600 winning percentage. According to the release, the 2019 class will officially be inducted during the 62nd NFF Annual Awards Dinner on December 10, 2019, at the New York Hilton Midtown. The inductees will be permanently enshrined at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta later that December and honored on the field during the 15th Annual National Hall of Fame Salute during the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on December 29, 2018. They will also be honored at their respective schools with an NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute, presented by Fidelity Investments, during the 2019 season. The announcement of the 2019 Class will be made Monday, January 7, 2019, in Santa Clara, Calif, the host city of the 2019 College Football Playoff National Championship. Statistically, only a select few get chosen for the prestigious honor. Over the last 149 years, just 997 players have earned induction into the College Football Hall of Fame of the 5.26 million individuals who have played college football since Princeton first battled Rutgers on November 6, 1869. From the coaching ranks, 217 individuals have achieved Hall of Fame distinction.

  7. He was expected to do to much last year because we didn't have any of the players we needed but i feel this year he will be more comfortable and thus more effective imo Sent from my SM-G920V using BtownBanners mobile app

  8. During his junior year at Valpo HS, he took 412 shots from the floor but only 30 % (123) were from three. He shot 43% from three and 55% from inside the arc. I’ve seen him play multiple times and honestly, he’s a scorer who learned how to shoot and not vice versatile. I used the Greg Graham comparison earlier and it’s a really accurate one IMO.....Graham was a scorer first then s shooter but by his senior year at IU had developed into a really good shooter.

Ironically the year we missed the tournament in 16 we were 3rd and almost won Big Ten but due to a bad non conference schedule we were not even close to tourney much like Michigan this year. I would much rather be further down in Big Ten and play in NCAA tournament as we did in 15, 17 and 18 than have the season Michigan did or we did in 2016. Although we don't always contend for title we have certainly been Big Ten's most consistent team last 10 years after being the worst for our entire history. This is exactly where I was comparing to Butler. They sucked for their entire history, made a great run and have since been Big East's most consistent team making tourney almost every year despite rarely contending for conference title. With that said I completely agree that they are better coached as you have alluded to. I agree with a lot of what you are saying and program needs to improve its results in player development especially. I as you know have been very critical myself a lot of the year. However, if we can win at this level we have to be satisfied but I am not sure we can if player development does not improve pretty quickly.

While this season did result in 40 wins. I think its beyond ridiculous that at no point did we really contemd for the conference or conference tournament. We keep pretending that we are the elite of the Big Ten but have we even finished top 3 since Smith left? Minny has won it 2 of the last 3 years and came in 3rd the other. I said it at the beginning of the season, time for no more excuses and to start winning. There is absolutely no reason to have finished this far back. There have been comparisons to Butler basketball. Well butler basketball doesnt get stud recruiters who are bad coaches. They get good coaches and prey upon the dozens of teams poorly coached. As i have said time and time again if you want to be a big boy program you dont hire an assistant.

  17. Craig has locked in an official visit to Indiana for the weekend of June 15th per Steve Wiltfong. IU is in the top five alongside Iowa, Purdue, Michigan State, and Ohio State. Of the teams in his top five, Ohio State, Indiana and Purdue have crystal ball picks.

  22. I’m not on either end of the spectrum on this one. I really like what McBob brings, and I would be shocked if he isn’t one of our top eight players. But, Whether he starts or not is of no real concern to me. ALSO: a major dynamic that has not been discussed is that McBob has a pretty nice shooting stroke, and knowing his work ethic I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if he is a much more confident and 40% three-point shooter next season. 24. Allen I think is already better. Yeah Wilson got us some attention and he got some great recruits...not saying he was bad by any means ...but the guy ran off so many big time QBs and other recruits we were afte and actually close to getting....basically the families didn’t like him and the kids ended up hating the one on ones with him. Let alone how he mis managed the roster (even if he was still here he left a lot of holes for this staff to fill....especially at Lb last class....OL is/was slim)....and for a QB guru with Bradford....he didn’t get sudfeld....what’s his face (litrell) did. Ran off lytle (QB) peters we had a good shot with (family friends) he left a lot of big holes, luckily Allen and Co have done a great job and hopefully this is just the beginning. I’m fine if Purdue does great with recruiting it makes football relevant here in the whole state. If we can land Kirtz (NW probably), Cameron Williams (LB from merriville), Craig young, and Kiser (long shot ND and PU are leaders I’d say). Maybe OL from up north...I’d call that a win...Sampson James they are still in contact with. However we know they will hit Florida hard.

  25. The Big Ten would lose a good coach. I want the Big Ten to be the strongest conference and for IU to be the best team in the strongest conference. He seems like a genuinely good guy too.

  26. Good question. I haven't seen him play so all I can do is draw some inferences from his AAU season. He's taken a total of 206 shots from the field 134 or 65% were 3's of which he he's hit 40%. That leaves 72 shots he's taken from inside the line and hit 32 or 44%. No way to know if those 72 were with 1 foot inside the line or drives to the basket so you have to take it for what it's worth. As for a spllt between 3's and non-3's, in this era and as a shooting guard I'm guessing (emphasize guessing) his split is pretty much average. Personally, if he can consistently hit 40%, bombs away!

I think that the big thing to remember is that he was the sixth man on a top twenty-five team that had just a seven man rotation. He had more minutes per game at St. Mary's than McSwain, Hartmann, and Justin Smith did here. Honestly, I think the hope is offering IU what Hartmann did in 2014-5 and 2015-6 but with the possibility of being able to play better defense down low.

  30. He looks a lot leaner in the picture. That’s good. He was too slow on defense. He does have good hands and knows how to post up so ......oh and he is 6’10”

  31. I think we question whether a particular player fits a system or not and what role he might fill on our team. But I don't think anyone really roots against a player or hopes he fails.

  32. Looks like we've got some work to do. https://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/five-star-trayce-jackson-davis-is-wide-open-heading-into-summer “My recruitment is still wide open. A lot of rumors have been made and even about me reclassifying even though the coaches didn’t even have a scholarship open, but they are just rumors and my recruitment is wide open. I am going to wait until July and if any new schools come up and maybe I will put them into consideration going into August,” he said. “I will probably cut my list in August to five or seven schools.” A commitment could remain on the backburner. “I don’t know when I could do it,” he said. “I was probably going to sign before basketball season, but now since all of these schools have taken the time with me, there isn’t any time table now.”
