A little pushback from ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips

Is this the ACC's way of saying they got caught jury tampering?  And got called out on it on a national sports show?

FCS format of FBS

Not bad. It'd take a minute of research, but I'd try to avoid in season rematches without moving seeding too much until the quarterfinals.

It may be true, but its conveeeenient that it wasn't leaked (to my knowledge) by one of the usual CFB contingent last spring when this alleged contract/agreement was made until ND was left out yesterday.

It is my understanding that it is and would be if they expand the CFP to 16 teams.  At least that is the way I took it today.

Am I the only one that doesn't want the playoff expanded much more? Most probably think that more football = better, but there will ALWAYS be arguments about who got left out. 16 team...17th team *******. 24 team...then team 25 does. Realistically anyone outside the top 10-12 doesn't have a realistic title shot. And the regular season as is acts to filter them. The committee itself is flawed, but thats a tangential discussion.

For the committee itself, they should have some guys from Vegas in the room because they know more about ranking and rating the teams because they do it all the time.  These ADs don't analyze and study the teams day in and day out like Vegas does.

They could expand the football college play off to 50 teams and then people would argue over the 51 and 52 teams that should be in instead of the 49 and 50 teams.

Same way with March Madness.  They could expand to 100 teams.  Then the argument would be why weren’t teams 101 and 102 in the tournament instead of teams 99 and 100.

Here’s how you save bowl season.

Expand to 16, Go to a system where a certain number of spots in the playoffs each year are reserved for a conference.  That number can change.  And it’s determined by record in bowls and playoff games the previous year.

best record gets 5 teams in. Then 4, 3, 2. For power 4.

15th spot is to the best team that missed out on the conference assignments or independent.

16th spot goes to group of 5 school.  And this game is on campus and a victory lap for the #1 team in front of their fans.

Now the Bowls have meaning. Declining a bowl would automatically disqualify you the next season as well.

OR...

The conferences already play a season of games. They have a championship game. Take the conference champions and pair them up for the natty. Simply put, if you can't/don't win your conference, you can't be the national champion. And the arrogant Notre Dame would have to join a conference for a chance to be eligible.

All of the non-champions can fight over right to play in the Taco Bell Diarrhea Bowl and all of the other 2nd and 3rd tier bowls.

Normally I would  agree with you but with unbalanced schedules I think it wouldn’t produce the best winners.

Just saw this statement from Purdue ...

We stand united with our Indiana neighbors,
the University of Notre Dame. Therefore, we
have decided to decline any college football
bowl game offers that may come our way.

BOILER UP!

That's funny.  IU should put out a statement that they stand for them, but there is a snowball's chance in hell they are giving up theirs.

You have to be eligible to be able to decline the invitation... 2-9 ain't getting them anywhere close... so you losers go hang out together and lick each other's wounds.

Screw that.

Release a statement that choosing not to compete isn’t the Hoosier way.

I would go a step further and reduce it to 8.

B1G and SEC champs get an auto and 6 at larges. 25 yrs ago IU would be going to the Rose Bowl to dominate USC/Oregon and then would be the national champs the next day. We’ve come a long way but all these 2 and 3 loss teams jockeying for a shot is ridiculous.
