Random IUBB Recruiting

Per his father, Robby Carmody is officially visiting Purdue, Michigan, and Notre Dame this summer. He "might look at going to Maryland and Indiana, too." Apparently prioritizing the first three because they have been recruiting him the longest, along with Pitt and Penn State where he has already visited.

Hopefully Archie and staff, despite jumping in late, can convince him to visit. Feel like this kid will be a great four year Big Ten player.

Since Henry is an '18 does that suggest our current offer list isn't looking as rosy as it did?   Henry's rated 3-star by 247; 6'5".  For his '16-'17 high school season avgd. 15 PPG; 6 reb/game; 3 assts/game.  He plays AAU on the Adidas circuit but in the Silver Division and box score data is only posted for the Gold Division teams.

Hemenway is a '19 and for his '16-'17 high school season avgd. 15 PPG; 4 reb/game; 4 assts/game.  He's listed as 6'3".  Rated 3-star by Scout; not rated by 247.

For me it suggests that Archie is looking for one 6'4"-6'5" hard-nosed swingman type player. A guy like Jallow (who apparently is not showing well lately) Anderson, or Henry (who are apparently both starting to rise considerably). As for Hemenway, 15/6/3 while a soph on a senior dominated team and the same team as a senior Nunge is pretty strong.

We will have five spots to fill. It feels like we are looking at two ball-handling guards (Langord, Garland, Phinisee, E Hunter, Carey), one swingman (Jallow, Ayala, Anderson, maybe Henry), and two stretchy bigs (Johns, Swider, J Hunter, Thompson). Since we are looking to replace RoJo, Josh, Freddie, and Collin, that makes sense to me, and would seem to leave us with a talent upgrade when the day is done.

Fingers crossed. We have 5/6 spots. Couple of lower ranked type players have been contacted recently.

If this staff can't pull stud recruiting classes Indiana really is in trouble.

I'm not worried yet. Garland or Langford by themselves go a long way in making a great class.

R-E-L-A-X. It's June. They've been recruiting for not quite two months.

And prime examples of it are Swider and Damezi Anderson. Both were ranked well +100 until this week, and now both are solid four stars.

Archie can see the local recruits up close. If he thinks that Henry and Anderson are worth our time and that Jallow might not be, then I'm really good with that.

The versatile 6-foot-5 class of 2018 forward has followed that with a very good spring for the Indiana PROS AAU squad on the adidas circuit.

One of the coaches who noticed Henry during the high school season was Ed Schilling, then with UCLA and now an Indiana assistant.

After Henry continued to play well this spring in AAU, Indiana reached out.

“Coach Schilling called and introduced himself. He said he's been watching me throughout the year while he was at UCLA and how when he came and watched Kris Wilkes play, he was watching me as well,” Henry told Peegs.com.

“He said I played well against him and played great defense in those games. He said he liked how versatile I was on offense and how I can guard positions 1-5 on defense.

“He said coach (Archie) Miller will be watching me in July, and they will be recruiting me hard throughout July and they will stay in contact as much as they can.”

Henry plays on the same team as 2018 guard Eric Hunter, who is getting Indiana recruiting attention as well and has made multiple IU unofficial visits.

Henry has shown a very versatile game.

Offensively, his ability to score off the bounce, make plays off the dribble and play in the mid-range have continued to improve.

Henry also has been a prospect who has shown defensive versatility and impact, something not always common during AAU. He plays bigger than his height inside on defense and has shown mobility on the perimeter.

Physically, Henry has a solid build already on his 6-foot-5 frame.

He’s looking for his first high-major offer.

“I’m versatile on the offensive and defensive end. As far as what I need to show to get that offer, I’m not sure,” Henry said. “I feel I can show that I can guard multiple positions from big to small.

“I feel I can step out on the floor and go in the post. I just want to keep getting better. I guess they want to see it more in all areas.”

Henry has scholarship offers from IUPUI, Ball State, Toledo, Indiana State, Northern Kentucky, UW-Milwaukee, Miami (Ohio), Bradley and Evansville.

“Michigan State fell off and Xavier fell off. I’m still talking to Purdue and talking to Oakland (Mich.),” Henry said of schools involved in addition to Indiana and those who have offered.

Henry led the Class 4A state champions in scoring (14.3 points per game), rebounding (6.7 per game) and assists (3.8 per game).

He shot 56 percent from the field overall, including 42 percent from the arc, and shot 75 percent from the line.

Ben Davis won its final 14 games of the season, finished 23-5 and highly respected coach Mark James’ squad allowed just 54.2 points per game, beating three top-10 ranked teams on the way to the state title.

Henry had 12 points, three rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots and one steal for Ben Davis in its 55-52 title game win over a Fort Wayne North team that included 2019 five-star 6-foot-7 forward Keion Brooks and 6-foot-9 DePaul signee Jaylen Butz.

Henry’s spring performances continued to grow from there.

“I want to show that I can guard any position on the court,” Henry said. “Some of these people I’m competing against to get those high-major offers, when I match up against them, I play well.

“I played well against Jerome Hunter and Darius Bazley, two top-50 players. I feel I defended them well and scored as well. I want to continue to show I can play at that level

Eh, not Indiana material in the first place. Better than Gelon no doubt but not what we need.

In all likelihood, the fact he didn't leave IU with an offer was a signal Archie and staff weren't that impressed.

"The cons are that I have been there almost all my life, and staying I wouldn't get to experience anything else."

I've alluded to something like this about Musa Jallow so this was interesting to read. Seems like living in East Lansing might not help the Spartans with this kid as much as one might expect.
