Bobman1 Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Not gonna lie, it’s super hard not being optimistic about both of these guys. If we miss out on both, which I don’t think we will, I’d be extremely disappointed.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners Iugradman 1 Quote

Garland and then Romeo decide to be Hoosiers. I believe the tears were more than just the reception they received at HH as well. No insider info, just a guess. HoosierAloha Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Another thing to consider is the distance. At Vandy he would be just a few buildings away from his mom. IU gives him some distance from his parents but they're not that far away. It would be about 4 hours away. They could easily be in attendance for weekend games and possibly a weekday game every once in awhile. Yogi's Picnic Basket Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 MD is 100% right about literally everything he has said lol. You just DON'T see those quotes from a visit. A commitment yes, but not from a visit. Also the we did everything is spot on as well. Well be really disappointed if we don't get him and anyone says Archie didn't do enough. Top 10 players usually don't even consider programs in IU's position because they have been getting recruited hard for years. Jumping in with not even a year or a real game played and becoming at the worst a co favorite is impressive. I bet first thing Alford says to him though is how was IU? You see my statue there? Yogi's Picnic Basket Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Haha I would love that. I have always wanted a recruit to commit while on a visit to another school. I'm sure it's happened in football, but it would be great to see Darius do it. Also UCLA doesn't pose of a threat to me with Garland. Hand isn't a sure one and done and talk of Melo coming next year now that he is home schooled gaining all kinds of knowledge from LaVar he could reclass. goonaha, Iugradman and CR3AMnCR1MS0N 3 Quote

Me So Hornsby Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 I think you guys are right about Darius’ mother. I think those tears were a realization that IU is where he wants to be and where he can become the best version of himself. She probably had it in her mind that she was gonna be on the same campus as him and then, well Archie and Hoosier fans do what Archie and Hoosier fans do. Based on what I see out there, it makes sense. I think we have a week at most to wait for a commitment. Parents want kids to experience the very best life has to offer. When they do, parents get tears in their eyes. I love it. No offense to Vanderbilt, but choosing between them and Indiana as a top flight basketball player, regardless of where Mom works is a no brainer. Who wants to sit on the end of the court and play in that cavern of a building? Great school, though. Dalton26, FCHoosier, Class of '66 Old Fart and 5 others 8 Quote

LamarCheeks Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Having grown up in The Region, I watched Darius' pop play high school ball a few times ... I remember being a kid and watching this game -- an absolute classic in the annals of Indiana high school basketball. Gary Roosevelt, with Renaldo Thomas (who ended up being a bench warmer on the Phi Slamma Jamma teams at Houston) and Winston Garland, played Plymouth, with future Michigan State and NBA star and coach Scott Skiles. This was back when there was one Indiana champion. Ah, the days ... I also recall one of the times we needed a coach -- either after Davis left or Sampson left -- Skiles' name was being bandied about. He had just left the Bulls and apparently, lived in Bloomington. I remember reading that some NBA gurus considered his offensive sets some of the best in the game, but he struggled to last in jobs because his personality tended to wear on guys after 3-4 years. I almost wondered if that might make him a perfect fit for the college game, since you change personnel every 3-4 years anyway. Then again, if you have a difficult personality, that might not lend itself to successful recruiting. IUsafety, HoosierHoops1, WayneFleekHoosier and 3 others 6 Quote
Yogi's Picnic Basket Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 I think UCLA was on he and Romeo's list as respect. Lots of connections between both families to Alford. UCLA has never been seen as much of a threat for either. UCLA is one of the "cool" schools to some and the allure of being out west will always get a kid excited. Nothing more though. If it was me, I'd choose IU, UF, UCLA, Texas and UNC or Duke for my visits just so I could travel around the U.S lol. Hoosier_roots 1 Quote
