(2018) PG Darius Garland to Vandy

Recommended Posts

Vandy will not be a championship team next season. If that's driving his decision then Kansas would probably be the choice.

Not sure IU has enough appeal for Langford, whom claims he wants to play on championship team. He'll be KU or Vandy bound

If they get Shittu and Langford, they would be talked about. No different than a typical UK class who competes year end, year out

Leaking a story and embargoing a story are not the same thing. An embargoed story is when you contact an outlet/reporter, tell them you have a big story and if they cover it  you'll give them the exclusive interview/quotes/inside story, etc. The release time is agreed upon, etc.

It is a big deal to break an embargo.

I agree but if you don't want the info leaked you don't talk to a reporter the info leaks all the time.

1.  I think the kid and the family strung along Rabjohns for the publicity and wow factor.  I can’t respect that.

2.  I think we are forgetting that we have three freshmen playing right now that look like they could be huge for Indiana.  Aljami looks terrific on defense and will cutdown on some of those freshman mistakes as the season progresses.  Moore looks like an athletic freak from what I saw last night but it also looks like he is a work in progress and may need a whole season to catch on and realize his role in Archie’s system.  Justin Smith is a guy who will have growing pains as well but is already proving himself on the glass.

3.  Because of the play of some of the freshmen and Davis, I think we have a good core to build around.  I can see us making noise in the NIT this season and if the 2018 class is as good as advertised I can see us pushing for an 8 seed or better next year in the NCAA tournament.  2019 will be key.  We have to get Watford.  He makes year three under Archie potentially special.

It's a lot different than a typical UK class. A typical UK class has 5 5-stars and a proven coach. Vandy is going to have an unproven coach, only 3 5-stars, and an otherwise unimpressive roster.

I'm just saying embargoing a story is a legit thing in the PR world, and there's a process to it. ESPN clearly broke the process/promise.

I am staggered by the few people on here who deny everything others say that isn't what they want to hear.

One thing to consider; and I know some will think I'm nuts.  Others will get it.   Robert Phinisee is a point guard and he is ready to play at the college level.  He does not need to develop; he does not need time to learn how to play at the college level.  Perhaps Garland didn't want to split time or compete with another freshman point guard?    Is Garland more athletic?  Bigger?  Yep.  Would he have been a better fit than Phinisee?  That's not so easy.

As much as I want every great recruit we can get, losing Garland doesn't affect me in the least.  We got a kid we can lean on for 4 years; and he understands where he's going to school.  I truly hope every Indiana fan will now get behind who we DO have and not worry about who we don't.   Garland is going to a terrific academic institution.  Bryce Drew is a decent man and a good coach.  Wish him well.  Indiana is in good hands.

I think I butted heads with you about Phinisee over the summer, but I'm on the RP bandwagon now. I think he's going to be a very good four year player.

Thompson/Phinisee/Hunter/Forrester/Anderson is a very solid foundational class for Archie.(Counting Race with this class since he's redshirting and came early).  The three freshmen this year also look very promising. We will go out and get the big guns in the 2019 class. Maybe it's because I never expected us to get Garland, but imo the future is very bright for IU basketball. I haven't been this excited about the team in a long time.

Give me an upperclassmen PG over a 5* freshmen any day of the week. This team needs scorers, not ball handlers, and a scoring PG ala Iverson couldn't be a worse fit for Archie's system. To be honest, I haven't followed this kid's game at all, because until they commit they're not a part of this team, so whether he's a scoring PG or a distributor, not beat up over this like some of you are. It's nice to be in the conversation with these kids, but I can't seem to recall too many teams winning championships with freshmen PGs. We didn't lose a game changer if he was only going to be here one season.

Anyone remember hearing that Bill Self's visit was absolutely awful? I remember hearing that stuff, even within the last week. Don't know if that ever happened to begin with, or if that has changed. Someone tell me if I'm wrong.

Jerry Meyer just updated his Romeo pick to Vandy. lol

Lol I’m done with recruiting for a while. Just a cesspool of people who think they know what’s going on when they mostly don’t. I’ll be enjoying the games and staying away from that side

I think this is good. For long term success in Archie's system the focus needs to be on 3-4 year players who buy into the system and who can play it at a high level when they are upperclassmen. Get that solid base going year after year, and then there will be more success adding in the occassional one and done type. Sure, we might have one a few more games with Garland next year, but what does that really get us? Not another banner. This gives more playing time and coaching time to the players we need to develop long term.

Drew is on the verge of landing three top ten players, two from out of state, in his second recruiting class. AT VANDERBILT.
He must be the world's greatest recruiter. Romeo to vandy which seemed laughable may indeed happen. They have to be the leader at this point.

Yeah man the family is pissed at ESPN. Can't blame them. Jamal Richardson, the dude that came on his OV to IU was none too pleased with ESPN.

Believe me they need ESPN a lot more than ESPN needs DG or his family.
