(2018) PG Darius Garland to Vandy

Most of the posters on every board seem to agree on one thing. The Hometown appeal is the one thing Vandy has going for them. There might be another huge attraction for Vandy. I haven't seen it posted, or for that matter even discussed.

Bryce Drew and Winston Garland both had careers in the NBA. WG played for several years. They were in the league together for I believe 5 years. They were both Point Guards as well. I don't know if they knew each other back in the early 90's or not, but one thing is for sure. They had plenty to talk about and reminisce during their conversations in the recruitment of DG.

Does anyone think the NBA experience of CBD is playing into the decision? Thoughts?

It seems like Winston is pretty pro IU.

I’m going to believe it’s Vandy until I hear Darius say it’s IU. I wish I could be like this though lol

Believe me. I was like this with Crean his last four years. Anything that could go wrong, would go wrong. Archie and staff have completely changed that mindset. These guys are for real

My source says he wants to hang out with Hoosier Guy's source.

The best thing about this whole recruitment is that if Crean we’re still coach, DG would already be a Vanderbilt signee.  What Archie has been able to do in his short amount of time at Indiana is amazing.  Win or lose on DG, we are going to be a force in the future.

Also, DG will be wearing the candy stripes.  No doubt in my mind.

Hometown appeal is vastly overrated. Especially for a one and done. How often will vandy be on national tv? Probably once when they play kentucky. When I think of vandy as a bball school I just laugh. I'm sticking with iu.

You legitimately have zero way of justifying this statement as it applies to Darius Garland.

It's opinion so no justification needed. Calling vandy a bball school is laughable. The only thing they can offer is it's close to home. That's it.

I sure hope it’s tomorrow. I’m telling ya. This will speed up the process for Romeo. They’re a package deal. No way Garland commits to IU if he knows Romeo isn’t going there
Yep and there is 0 chance Romeo goes to vandy. The package deal will only be at iu. A superstar from a basketball crazed state like Indiana is not going to vandy of all places. No way.

But as you've said Romeo is going to iu so garland can pull the iu trigger now.

IU is the leader for Romeo. Being a star in Indiana means so much more than being one in Tennessee.

I think we do too but he's waiting until spring and I'm just not convinced this season will be very good.  We have a brutal schedule and a lot of holes on offense.   That's what worries me.  If I knew we were going to make the tourney I'd like our chances.

He said he's watching the coaches. I think he already knows the season might be rough.

Possibly the biggest star in Indiana since Damon Bailey is not going to vandy. He will go to UNC if for some reason he does not pick iu.
