(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS

Recommended Posts

The path has changed. I believe now that with Archie he would have followed the Sean route. I suspect with Vandy, Kansas being the other finalists and Romeo having also been interested in Louisville it seems clear we were willing to recruit in a similar manner.

Now that Archie can see directly the impact on his brother I think we change. Not sure if Vandy or Kansas do as well but I think we were probably willing to put money on the table before but I suspect we are not now.

I also think we caught a bit of a break. Archie was not here long enough to do too much and he did not land any 5 stars yet so he may have been clear to date here.

Good to be lucky in that regard.

My thoughts exactly. Timing was good to keep Archie clean.

Possibly but the shoe can always drop later. If I were him and didn't want to be dragged into this I would commit to IU today.

I mean yeah I'd love that but IU has been mentioned so how does that affect our position?

I think this is accurate.

They will find out what works and what doesn't and who gets caught and who doesn't.

Adjust and advance.

Eliminating the 1 and dones will lower the amount of money being tossed around BUT then the bidding wars start over with what is the next best available.

Supply and demand. If the high end kids go, the next ones up will be the high end kids. If this continues...

It doesn’t. Our mention was an internal email between Dawkins and Miller. It could have been ideas to get Bowen to a spot. We don’t really know the context. All we know is OG and Tom did not end up with ASM. It’s kind of a mute point. We either weren’t willing to play the game or our offer wasn’t good enough. Lucky us.

It's not IU in this instance. It's the shoe company. Adidas is paying good money to IU for SPORTS. If Adidas "owns" Romeo they will steer him to an Adidas school and then he'll sign an Adidas contract upon becoming a "professional." This was setup for UL but they university 6'd the **** out of it.

I find it hard to believe Romeo dumps all the Adidas connections to go to Vandy if there is nothing else going on..

In light of the recent recruiting/corruption allegations and revelations—I am no longer confident Romeo will commit to IU. I guess I did not realize how much of a cesspool college basketball recruiting has become. I was at IU in the 80’s —when many or even most schools did not cheat. It was an honor and privilege for kids who got to be Indiana Mr. Basketball to choose from the best programs in college basketball—including IU. If —as some are suggesting and as I am starting to suspect that it is now a bidding war for top recruits —that could explain how these non-basketball schools are suddenly landing 5 Star players. If—and it is still a big if—Romeo and his family are in on that—I don’t want IU to be part of that. Let him go to Vandy. I still hold out hope he would not be swayed by money as plenty of that will be coming his way in the NBA. He is an Indiana legend and role model for thousands of young Hoosiers across the state. I hope he remembers that not only when he is signing autographs for all those kids who look up to him but also in the recruiting process. It’s not too late for Romeo and IU to do the right thing in this case. I hope they both do.......whether that means we get him or we don’t.

The part that's starting to worry me here about Romeo is that when Crean was here, we just didn't recruit him at all.  That leads me to believe Crean knew what was going on, and just wasn't willing to play ball like other coaches were.

You'd think if his recruitment was totally clean, Crean would have camped out in his front yard given that he knew landing an in-state McDonald's All American would potentially save his job.

I'm just starting to come around to WayneFleek's thinking on this.  I mean, the evidence is right there in front of us.

And I'm not blaming Romeo or his family in all this.  It's just the way things are for 5 stars.

I don't think you "know" what Romeo/Langfords have or have not accepted. Just stick with you don't think or want to believe they would take money.

Also it is my opinion, and only that, that Romeo Langford's recruitment is and has been a very gray area recruitment. I am with WayneFleek that pretty much a majority of top 50 players are getting something. And also be willing to bet that 90% of 5 stars are getting something.

I think Romeo falls into our lap as a matter of last resort. I truly don’t think he loves any of these three schools. I’m sure the Langford’s are up to date on Shittu, they understand what Kansas is capable of being caught for, and have noticed a few loose allegations tied to IU. With that being said, IU offers the least amount of risk. If this decision is a business decision, risk management (keeping Romeo eligible and in the spotlight), will play a huge role. Consequently, IU makes the most sense. Romeo to IU on March 29th at 9:13 pm. My guess
