I love how he talks about how long Fischer played consecutively and detailed his substitution timing. This has been one of many Crean faults.

Zeller and Oladipo should have been playing 35-37 mpg not 29. Completely ridiculous.

 The part about having the defender sealed and the ball being thrown to the post is what is so painful to me.

That very rarely happens in the system we have now.Usually the post player is looked off for a cross court pass to another  perimeter player who may or may not be open or a  shot is taken over a defender.

To let that kid get away is beyond me. I told my wife that if I knew that Fischer wasn't hanging out with his team and that he was staying in his dorm...as a Coach...I have a responsibility to get to the bottom of the problem and see if I can help. Maybe Crean did that, maybe he didn't, but from everything that's been relayed up to this point...it seems as though the staff just let a freshman twist in the wind and put their hopes on his less than responsible teammates. BE THE ADULT! Do not expect teammates to know how best to handle personality differences....that's where the REAL coaching comes in. Don't hold his hand, but find a way to bridge the gap. I guess the real reason I am frustrated is that we have all been painted this spectacular picture of how things are done now. The approach to team/personal responsibility. The understanding of what it means to play here. The approach towards the community. All the things from last year and early this year have painted a picture quite the opposite. I feel duped.

I agree we're going to miss Luke, but I'm not sure on the details to know how much of this lies with Coach Crean.

 

From what I know, Coach was taken off guard by Luke's departure and it might have been too late to fix.

 

I guess the underlying rule is everything falls under the coach and it's his job to know and fix it.

 

Coach Knight let one of the greatest players of all time leave the program and he admits it was one of his biggest mistakes. From what I've read, I believe Coach Knight left that responsibility to the upperclassmen, which I believe has been part of our issue the last couple years. (lack of upperclassmen)... but clearly that model failed sometimes too.

 

This team would be a lot different with Luke, but Coach Dale said it best:

 

"I would hope you would support who we are. Not, who we are not. These six individuals have made a choice to work, a choice to sacrifice, to put themselves on the line 23 nights for the next 4 months, to represent you, this high school. That kind of commitment and effort deserves and demands your respect. This is your team."

 

Another Coach Dale quote that's relevant to this team "I've seen you guys can shoot but there's more to the game than shooting. There's fundamentals and defense."

It's a really silly comment, in my opinion. Luke has practiced his arse off for 12 months, he didn't need babied in, he needed to play. Their tallest other player was 6'7" and there were only 2 subs to go around. It's kind of a slight to everyone with common sense to act like WOJO did some masterful job of tightening the rotations.

 

I watched the game. The entire game. I've NEVER watched an entire Marquette game. EVER. I watched because of Luke Fischer. I didn't want him to fail (that's not me) but this writer is a little off the deep end.

 

Remember, Lukes BEST GAME came in his last game at IU. He was ready to break out.

 

Also, NO, Will Sheehey didn't graduate before Luke arrived.

I understand your points and they are valid but Crean has been notorious for underplaying his star players in minutes and using Too much bench. He has been better this year with that in regards to JBJ and Yogi. I've always thought a 7-8 man rotation is better than a 10-11 man rotation. Let your best players slug it out and get a feel for the game. I realize Luke's minutes are out of necessity and not some genius coaching strategy but indirectly it is. Duke is a good example of a team that plays with a short bench. They have 4 star players transfer semi-regularly because they don't get play. Or 4 star guys who don't hardly see the court until Jr or Sr seasons. Coach K gets it. Crean has some weird notion of playing with 2 units is best. (Granted, if we had UK platoons, it doesn't really matter).

oh yeah, if Marquette had Noah Vonleh last night LF might not have gotten 33 mins either!

I agree with the best 7 or 8 guys getting the minutes, predicated upon positions, but it had NOTHING to do with MQ last night. It was neccessity

I'm surprised you didn't hate the article since it says what most everyone on here posting has said on either side. I especially liked the part where questioning Crean was stirring the pot or being a Crean hater. Just because I point out a lot that he can't coach thats what you and others have labled me. The man who wrote this article is spot on! Choosing a bunch of pot heads and partiers over your program and losing Luke like players should lose you your job. Plus I'm sick of you and others defending this man with Sampson like morals as his current crop mirrors his. At least Sampson could coach.

If this happened at IU, our negative recruiting would extend to Australia but at O$U no recruits will bat an eye.

Yeah, Maybe. Except, in reality,  the "big guy" who was getting over 29 a game, got 8. Yep 8 minutes. Coincidental that Luke Fisher sat for 7 and the "old big" played only 8?

 

As the back-up that never played last year Luke averaged more than 8.

Guy is a top 50 recruit finally getting serious minutes. Of course he looks good.

I've said this before but having Harris that year likely would have been enough to win us a title. We were so close personnel wise, and he has exactly what we needed. Dunham would have played a few minutes too. Boy that would have been nice.
