IU vs St. John's Post Game Thread

Wow Troy's mom. Too bad. Troy is one of my favorite players to watch. Mom taints that with all these rants/tweets.

Yep tired of her apologizing. Understand if it's a one time thing but this isn't the first time.

Didn't SJU get rolled by 30 in an exhibition game by a D3 school? Vanderbilt put them away early. Us? Claw our way to a 10 point win. I admit that I'm in a pretty pessimistic place right now, but that win today does nothing to settle my nerves. Now we're probably looking at UNLV with Goodluck and maybe Zimmerman. Nothing gimme about that.

I thought Jay Will made some good points.

But ...

He said he thought IU would win by 30.

A lot of people thought his No. 1 ranked Duke team would beat Indiana by that many in the Sweet Sixteen in 2002 as well. Some teams play well in the underdog role. Today, St. John's hit some shots out of their ass but they hit some shots.

Reminds of Indiana, especially in the second half against Jay Will's Dukies in 2002.

Just sayin

St. Johns has been the underdog in both games though. I think the reality is that one of their opponents played to their level and the other lived up to their billing. There aren't a lot of positives to draw from this trip to Maui so far. Not without reaching anyways.

There's also a difference btwn #1 playing a #15-20 team with an NBA player and what should be a top 20 team playing a team that might win 1-2 conference games.

Its November. Yes, we all were looking forward to Maui and were hoping to contend for the title but shit happens in November. Remember last year when Purdue/Michigan/Michigan St. all lost "sure win" games early on? We also lost to EWU but they ended up in the tourney and were a pretty solid team last year.

We don't look like a good basketball team at all right now. That being said, these games could help us down the road and its up to Crean to make them help us.

A "good" thing to take from this game was that we played relatively poorly yet it never seemed like we would lose. I think we are still trying to adjust to playing with legitimate inside presence and establishing good chemistry on offense.

Playing Duke in Cameron Indoor will be the real barometer test for this team. I still believe we have more than enough talent to win a bunch of games and contend for a Big Ten title.

*SIGH*

Didn't the game against EWU end up being very telling about the issues we would struggle with the rest of the year ultimately leading to an early tourney exit? Would last year's performance be satisfactory with this team?

We had a very rigid team last year that had little margin of error. This team has more talent, more experience, and more versatility than last year's team.

My post doesn't imply whatsoever that last year's performance is satisfactory for the 15-16 squad.

I'm simply saying that we are a highly-talented team that has glaring issues BUT we have the talent and experience to overcome them over the next few months.

If we did nothing to overcome them last year, and apparently didn't work on it over the offseason, when do you think they'll learn what they need to overcome it?

Timid, uninspired, uncommunicative, selfish, and thinking too much are some descriptors I would use for the effort against St. John's.  I liked the focus to get the ball down low to start the game; however, that disappeared after a bit.  We go through stretches where we have great movement, ball and personnel, on the offensive end and we get a few stops or force difficult shots.  We follow that up with turning it over, bad shots, and completely lacking any desire to play defense.  It is absolutely maddening when there is so much talent on the roster.

Sometimes it almost seems as if Crean emphasizes getting the ball inside a few times to please the fans then goes back to his style.
