IU vs Bellarmine Post Game Thread

I don't think TB's lungs can handle 30+ minutes per game for a season. Probably going to be more around 25-28. Interesting thing is this is one of the most interesting factors going into this season. Based on roster makeup it would seem we need TB 30-35 minutes per game.

Need much more of a sampling but our front court is very young and thin.

We mostly got away with it Cody's freshmen year so guys think Bryant can do the same. Since Bryant is already in the "boot of death" I dont have much faith he can give 30 min. a night.

Zeller never played 30 mpg. Who in their right mind thinks Thomas Bryant will?

Ryan Burton will not be in a game in the first half against a team worth a damn the rest of the season. He was put in at the under 4 with us up 23.

I was watching the Kentucky game from 2011 the other day and I forgot that Daniel Moore was playing some minutes in the 1st half of that game. I was probably yelling at the tv what is he doing in this game during meaningful minutes. I'm with you I don't think we will see burton in the 1st half but you never know (Nothing against Moore I just didn't feel like he should of been in there against the number 1 team in the counrty

OT the one game where I was confused was Cody's sophomore year against Butler and he was out of the game when he shouldn't have been because I think that if we had him and Christian in Alex Barlow does not score the winning basket. The Illinois game blew my mind as well.

Fair to say Crean let the bench players get more time late in the first and the entire second half? That seems like a more plausible explanation for the lackluster final 25 minutes. Did we see lots of weird lineups after murdering Bellarmine in the first 15?

I've never seen Coach use wired lineups before.

Watched the game last night on replay and I thought we looked very good. Even when we gave up the 23 point lead you never felt the team was out of control, never thought the game was getting away from them. That to me is a huge change from last year. They seemed poised and they responded accordingly...

I saw this too. It was one of those games where the score was closer than what it actually was on the floor.

One concern I have and I had it last year as well is how we finish the first halfs in most games. In the last 90 secs we went from being up 22 to being up 15. I could be wrong but it always seemed last year we hardly ever went into the half with the momentum. I think in the first exibition game yogi shot it with 7 secs instead of holding for the last shot and we ended up fouling them and putting them on the line for some cheap points

I watched the game and I noticed a few things that haven't been mentioned.
1. Troy has picked up yogi's scary, falling out of bounds- pass, without the same effects. That is a bad, bad, move.
2. JBJ was out of position on defense. Troy was standing around on defense. Not providing weak side help.

The biggest problems I saw were lack of effort. Troy did not put enough effort into his defense especially. But, he was better last game, so it's hard for me to say this is a trend or it's just the team not taking their opponents seriously. Which, I think is a totally different problem, but people tend to disagree.

I also think its key to point out that guys like Troy and JBJ sometimes take defensive plays off or use them as an opportunity to rest. They're so active on offense, they need time to catch their breath but don't want to come out of the game. The difference between players like them who are lauded for their defense like Kobe and ones who are looked at as a liability like Carmelo is knowing how and when to choose what plays to take off IMO.

I think when playing to his full capability, Troy can be good defensively especially with his length. I think he was pretty good on defense in the first scrimmage but I didn't catch the second. JBJ, I'm not sure I've seen that defensive ability from yet

JBJ was totally off in general the whole second game. It's hard to take much from his performances on a microlevel because of it. On a macrolevel it's disconcerting to see him have such a bad game against a weak opponent.
