I agree completely. Green over Gordon for me too. Alkins is a different type of player. I like this signing, just wish we had space/PT for a Alkins or Thon.

 

We do.

 

We are losing Yogi, Nick, Max, and have an open spot. That covers our first four commits.

 

Additionally, Troy is on track to graduate, and I believe therefore the odds of him returning are very, very slim. There's also the coveted MSB spot that could , ahem...'magically open' at a moment's notice.

 

In other words, we are covered for the four we've signed without the over sign, and we have one spot likely left for that 'just in case - big time recruit'. 

 

We also will have excellent roster balance going into next year: DeRon, TB, OG, Juwan, and Collin as bigs, and JB, Josh N, Cujo, Rojo, and Devonte at guard so far. Add Troy or a big time spring player at the 2/3/4 spot and it is a very well balanced roster with a senior, three juniors, three sophs, and three freshmen in the rotation.

"I committed to Indiana University," Green, who is averaging 19 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists and had amassed 2,168 career points entering the season, told SNY.tv by phone. "I like Coach [Tom] Crean a lot, I think he's great at developing players. The campus is huge, it was nice. The rest of the coaching staff are great, they bring a lot of energy. I think they're the best fit for me."
 
The younger brother of San Antonio Spurs shooting guard Danny Green, Devonte said he also considered Rutgers, Kansas State, VCU, Cincinnati, DePaul and Iona. He was planning to visit Kansas State, Iona and VCU in coming weeks, but won't need those visits.
 
He joins shooting guards Curtis Jones and Grant Gelon and power forward De'Ron Davis in Indiana's 2016 class.
 
"Devonte is one of a select few players that can dominate the game on both ends of the floor," LuHi coach John Buck said. "He can make deep threes, attack the rim with power finishes, and shut down the other team's best player. He makes his teammates better and has shown tremendous growth this season. I look forward to seeing him rise to the challenge of playing at Indiana. He has all the tools to have an excellent career in the Big 10."
 
Crean and assistant Chuck Martin watched Green last month when he went off for 31 points with seven 3-pointers Thursday night in a 97-58 blowout win of Chaminade.
 
He likes how they plan to use him.
 
"They said I would play a combo guard, they said they need a breakdown guy," Green said. "They said I'm that."
 
Asked if he was glad to finally have the process over, he said, "Yeah, it's definitely a relief.

Adding Green will move our class rank up to 16, displacing PSU.

 

And the second best class in the B1G.  Not really sure if there are any other big time recruits leaning to B1G programs besides Josh Jackson to MSU.  MSU has a sick class on paper.

I largely agree with Old Friend on this topic, and I know his feelings on this are broad and not necessarily about any one recruit in particular, but with that said I'll disagree on this kid. While he's clearly not his brother, who was a top 30-40 recruit and has about 4 inches on him, the kid does have pedigree. He's also seen first hand what can happen to someone who is overlooked yet puts in the work to improve.

While he was a very good college player, nobody thought Danny Green was going to be an NBA player, let alone a viable starter on a championship team. So, I like the potential intangibles this kid could bring, by all accounts he's athletic, a good shooter and a serious defender.
