DD And Hanner gone

Recommended Posts

I've been as critical of Crean as anyone, and even I won't complain about this move.  Good luck to them, but a message had to be sent.

He is still at the helm and responsible for his players.   The fact that he did what he had to do and sent a strong message may be 5 or 6 incidents too late.   I'm not falling all over myself giving him a bunch of credit.   His players simply should not be in this position time and time and time again.

On a serious note, how close is Hanner to graduating? Maybe he can finish up with summer school classes so he won't have to sit out a year.

On a light note, maybe he will actually develop under another coach and system. It could actually be a blessing for him. Just go to a school that never tests like the Cuse.

No way this drops expectations for the season. Hanner was going to be like out 7th or 8th man off the bench and who knows if Davis could have even played. It's still Banner 6 or bust

Be prepared for "bust."   Trust me....we'll hear about our lack of depth, poor decisions by kids, etc.  And it'll all be used as an excuse for Tom to cover his own backside.    Write that down....I'd bet on some version of that being accurate down the road.    There's always some excuse....

I have to admit...

I'm shocked as hell at these dismissals...

I gotta give Crean some credit for this...because I have been hard as hell on him this past year, and he is definitely feeling the heat,

and to do this in the face of adversity...

color me impressed.

I actually talked to him about that last fall in class. He said something along the lines of...he could maybe graduate in 3 years, but it was unlikely.

I do not think it takes a pair of gentlemens to make this call, the players made the call for themselves. I also believe the call might have come from above Crean's level or strongly suggested.

Seems like we've been here before. I give somebody credit for having the huevos to pull the trigger. Maybe Crean, maybe someone higher up. But historically all parties have simply ignored the elephant in the room. It was the right move and all I can say is "thanks". Fist step towards restoring some order and confidence in #iubb.

Big news.  Tough times for Hanner and DD but they brought it on themselves. The team and the program are too important to keep putting up with violations.  After the last round of issues, you have to think everyone on the the team knew the consequences for further violations ---and now those consequences have been executed.  No one should criticize Crean over this---he did the right thing here. I wish Hanner and DD well---I rooted for them the whole time they were here.  But---IU is bigger than any two players and I will be rooting for the 2 new players who take their place and who understand that they have to follow the rules and---who understand that HOW they represent IU basketball is so important. Go Hoosiers!

You're more than likely right, but Crean truly cares about his players and you know it was extremely hard on him emotionally to see Devin leave after what happened in the fall. This was necessary though

Remember, all those actions that conjured up the sympathy were done by the players. They DID bring it on themselves.
