Potential fallout from coaching change

Recommended Posts

I think it was really easy for coaches like Pitino, Izzo, and Calapari to say that they were interested in the job afterwards. Those guys consistently turned down NBA jobs at the same time so I doubt they were THAT interested in the IU job. Plus, even though those guys are great at what they do…I don't know if I coudve stood having them as a coach. Pitino and Izzo look like lunatics on the sideline and Calapari is a slime ball.

Idk how many coaches were lining up for the job when Crean got the job. Crean wasn't even IU's first choice. Tony Bennett (IU's top choice) and Sean Miller(second choice) turned down the job. If they turned down the job I highly doubt Pitino, Izzo, and Calipari were dying to coach the team.

Those guys were not claiming interest after the fact but were lobbying during the search for consideration.

I'm glad that he at least is passionate about having higher competition to compete against though, that's not all such a bad thing. Shows his competitiveness.

I don't view it as this. He NEEDS that game to help WSU make the tournament. At Indiana he wouldn't need that game. Crean proved that more than anything this year with our schedule. We got in.

I totally agree but his a approach is poor and amateurish. Something a blueblood program can do without.

Isn't our SOS 26th? I understand that we schedule more sub-300 teams than we should, but our SOS always ends up pretty solid.

Have any articles to back that up? Ive heard those rumors but never found any articles or interviews where they stated their interested. Just articles with rumors or hearsay but nothing definitive.
In the end Im glad we never got any of the three. Id rather be where we are now than have any of those three as the coach

It can only be hearsay. Kravitz and a few others have stated that Izzo contacted Kravitz about helping him as a middle man. Cal reportedly did the same with Brian Evans.

Not sure why any of them would say, I really wanted the Indiana job even after the fact to a reporter. Once it is known a guy is considering other jobs beyond the one he had now recruiting becomes harder.

Do I know it for fact that those guys had interest. No. However, I believe it possible enough and have a harder time believing no one wanted this job besides Crean.

Out of all the articles I found none mentioned Izzo, one mentioned that Calipari "might" be interested but at the time most schools were still unsure what was going to happen with the recruiting mess at Memphis (the Derrick Rose situation was a hot button issue then), and one article mentioned Pitino being interested but it turned out to be an article written as an April Fool's joke.

I just think with the situation Crean entered, no one really wanted it. If you go through sites like Inside the Hall and read the articles with interviews, etc. about who was actually interested in the job, there weren't a lot. IU's wish list started with Tony Bennet and Sean Miller and they both turned it down rather quick so that says something.

I can't tell do you like Marshall or not?

I don't know the man personally so I can't answer that directly if that's your question. I have just read or viewed local media coverage that sometimes doesn't flatter him in a positive manner.

That doesn't address the historic argument at all. The Assembly Hall is as historic as it gets.

Edit: Dude are you a Kansas fan? I usually don't call people out, but you hate Marshall which fits the mold. And now you're gushing over AFH. While talking down about Assembly Hall. Feel free to delete my edit if inappropriate mods

Please quote me anywhere were I am stating I hate Greg Marshall. If we think a mid major coach is all we are worth then we are sounding pretty desperate. I would HATE to think he was what we would be willing to settle with.

You mean besides like 15 of your 19 posts talking down about the guy? And that all of them get into his personality and such. Then the other 4 have been boasting about AFH

I still can't figure out why anyone would want another year of Crean. Seriously, how much do you have to see? Would you feel the same way if Yogi was a senior or if Troy was in the lottery now? We're going to be in a lot worse shape a year from now if we keep the toxicity around.

If Troy was in the lottery you know people would be using that to argue for keeping Crean. Because at least some credit would have to go to Crean, and some would heap most
